    Angry Yahoo PPC SUX
I just need to rant a little...

OMFG WTF Yahoo search marketing sucks!!!!!!!

I decided to try becuase I recieved a $50 vaucher. It modified my descirptions. Added things I never put in there then disapproved my listings for what THEY added!! I'm unable to change my urls for my ads or edit my descriptions. Tried to delete everything and it won't let me do that either!!

Doesn't matter since all of my ads are disapproved because my description that they edited are all disapproved (they disapproved them for the words they added???)!!!

What a waste of time BAH!

    </rant> Thanks all.

Been away, now I'm back. Not as much, but I'm back & starting from scratch. Where I was, was fantastic. Where I am now, less so. Things have changed, become harder. So have I. Game ON!!!

    Agreed
Yes, the Yahoo Editorial staff are morons. Inconsistency is a way of life for them. I had over 150 ads that ran for over a year and then one day they decided to remove them for ridiculous reasons. Haven't bothered relisting them either--just moved all my money to Google.

They are revamping the interface in the next few months. Let's hope they get their act together. The sad part is that they are just replicating Google's system......no real innovation on their part. Just following the leader.

** Alan enters the room slowly, quietly, bible in hand.... Suzi lays suspended in mid - air two feet above the bed and speaks in tongues as her face contorts and her head spins 360 degrees to face me.....

I feel your pain Suzi. Overture Yeehoo! has deterioriated steadily for two years now. We started using them five years ago when we didn't know any better and got a quick education on why NOT to set up an account with auto replenish on Yeehaw!! Went through nearly $2,300 in three days before I caught on.

Three years ago, we were getting a 200 - 250% ROI on Yoohoo!! and then watched for over a year as it slowly and steadily became about as useful as a mid grade 2nd tier SE.

I called them numerous times, had countless hours of conversations with them, even offered to fly out on my own dime and meet with them to try to find a solution to a problem that it turned out NO advertiser will ever be able to solve, unless you are a proctologist who does surgeries for head removal from anal cavities.

It is a real pity what has happened at WooHoo!! over the past few years. They are infamous for changing your ads, descriptions, and in our case they changed our match option settings on several occasions - I assume to increase click revenue through broad search coverage. I eventually received a credit (not a cash refund) for several snafus they instigated - but that still did nothing to increase relevant / qualified traffic.

We used to spend $6,000 - $10,000 a month with PooPoo!! Today spend less than $800 monthly to eek out a small monthly profit. Thankfully the sales we receive through DooDoo!! campaigns lead to repeat sales - so the long term return justifies continuance.

As for changing your URL's, Ad descriptions etc, you should have been able to do that - so no idea what that was all about - but it probably matters not to you at this point and I can understand your shegrin.

As unfortunate as it is, DooDoo!! has become a peer to the 2nd tiers, but at least they can be a leader in that category!!!

You can't change any Declined stuff. You have to put it in all over again as new listings.

There is some way to delete the declined stuff...I think it's a seperate option on the "declined listings" screen.

Yet I could rant for hours about THAT pile of frustration system!!! They give no value-add to me. To do well in AdWords it takes a form of SEO. But the whole point of paying, in my view, is to not have to do SEO!

At least with Yahoo they don't keep meddling with the price or expect you to do SEO on what you're PAYING FOR! Goofle AdWords can kiss my grits. Blanged if I'm paying for the aggravation of figuring out any of their algos. Without the payoff of high FREE listings, it's not worth the headache IMO.

I had a campaign turned down once due to "relevance" issue. It was for only a few variations of the same phrase that I had in my ad title, page title, and H1 tag.

I hear ya, just substitute "AdWords" for "Yabooboo."

What the PPC industry needs right now is a good, high traffic PPC company that actually has properly-working neurons!! None of the current options fits that description. The ones who have high traffic and okay fraud control also have an infinite supply of stupidity and craziness mixed in, wrecking the result.

So true. Too bad the big 3 suck, if someone could fill that niche with traffic and good fraud control they would walk away on top easily.

You need to either dedicate your self to PPC to the point of becoming a specialist or hire someone to manage your campaigns. I've had success with Goo in the past but haven't tried them since this last fiasco. Guess I'm done with that till the kids are out of the house!!

They have it ready for early birds that want to try it. I have my account ported over to the new setup, but haven't had a chance to do more than log in for a quick peak. I'm all paused there for now.

I feel that I have to add my .02 to this discussion since I've been very, very disappointed with Yahoo's PPC from the start. Will Yahoo's revamping of the interface help the problem of really poor conversions compared to G and MSN? And will they finally allow me to specify the countries I want my ads to appear in? Making the interface nicer will help me set up and tweak campaigns more quickly, but it does nothing to solve the fundamental problems with Yahoo's PPC structure and methodology. How about changing the idiotic editorial process and editorial decisions as described earlier in the thread? I seriously doubt this will change with a revamping of the interface.

Disclaimer: Yes, G and MSN do much better for me in terms of ROI than does Yahoo, but I still have huge gripes with those two for many other reasons. I agree with Leader that there is no PPC search engine right now that just does it right. We are stuck with what we have, and there is room for VAST improvement. Meanwhile playing the PPC game can be profitable, but much of the time it's utter frustration that just doesn't have to be!

This is slightly but I think it applies ...

I've been battling with YPN on the other side for months. They screw up my account settings and I get TAXED on my earnings over nothing that I changed and after countless times re-setting my account so they don't remove taxes from my income, it still goes back to the wrong setting.

It seems they all have their heads up their butts over there ... talking to them via phone is nice but with all their assurances that things will be "fixed" nothing ever is and the same issues keep happening. It's very frustrating dealing with Yahoo on all levels.

I think Leader has it right: "crack smoke in the vents ... " it's a collective stupidity thing.
    Peace,

I have actually had pretty good luck and great results from yahoo. I just set everything up different than the other engines and from my experiences the people shopping from yahoo spend alot more than they do on google. I do agree Yahoo is the biggest pain in the but and I absolutely strongly dislike a majority of the editorial staff as well for the butchering of copy.

One thing you can do though to help with editorial is call yahoo's customer service and see about getting put into a gold, platinum or diamond account where you have an account rep dedicated to you and the account rep will work with editorial to make sure they do not mess your ads up.

I don't know how much you have to spend etc... but it doesn't hurt to try and get an account rep who has assigned editors who will actually not destroy your ads.

I would also reccomend not doing content match for most of the merchants links, a few of them could work great though.

If anyone needs help with yahoo as well, I am always open to helping with campaigns. PPC is kind of my hobby. I'll be at affiliate summit as well if you want to look over your campaigns.

The Yahoo interface has wanted me to rip my hair out more times I can remember. It is hard to imagine how a company can have such a bad interface. Hopefully the new interface will be released soon to international users.

I was so mad on Friday that I almost
They removed 2 of my old campaigns which was with them for 3 years.
They deleted 36 of my newly submitted most relevant keywords.

I called them and asked them why?why??why???do this to me after I went through so much bs with their old interface and new interface!!!

I threatened them I will completely leave them if they ask me one more time "to re-submit(I've been spent too much time on it) the ads if I wish".

The rep felt my anger and checked into my account...she said she don't see why would my ads and keywords be removed or deleted. She promised me she will re-submit them to the editorial dept for second review but she can't guarantee they will be approved...

    I don't care anymore.

I know I say a ton of good things about Yahoo all the time, but now I need to VENT!!!!!!!!!!

    OMFG WFBS AHHHH!!!!!

We just went through the transfer and all my comapigns got wrecked. I am sitting here for now 7 hours straight trying to get it in order and am not even 1/5 of the way through. UCCHHHH!!!!!!!!

I saw this thread and needed to vent too. Why could't they just let some of us stay where we were happy =0(.

Anyways my account rep there has been fabulous and feels bad so she is helping me. Yahoo is still not horrible and I still love them. Just be very carefull if your campaigns, especially large ones, are going through the upgrade now! It can and probably will mess it up for you. But the Yahoo support team is doing very well with helping fix the problems.

OK ONLY 15 More hours at least of constant spreadsheet changes until I finish. Later everyone!

Give em time Lead. As much as they are trying to emulate G, it's only a matter of time before they throw in SEO with PPC.

I've actually seen improvement in the ROI from Y the past two months over wht it had been the previous three years, but with the new "quality scoring" system, I sense the writing is on the wall.

I'm confident that when the day comes that a new player adopts the earlier G model, they will skyrocket. Then they will follow suit as they all will. We just deal with what is - adapt -innovate and keep moving.

You think the new leader could be the amazon/wikipedia engine?

Anything is possible - but regardless of what new player enters the arena, it too will follow suit eventually. History repeats itself, as we have seen with the big three - so ride the wave and then look for the next newbie.

I have never seen you soo pesimictic. Anyways, if you read the artilcle from the first link, they aknowledge the flaws and are there to fix it in theirs. Chances are they will do what you are saying, but it would be nice to see one of them hold back from that path.
