The 800-number for 40 years a part of daily American life is doomed.
Like what happened to pay phones. And milkmen.

The 411 button would be interesting, but I'm not so sure I'm ready to welcome the end of the 800 number just yet. He's got a point though. What if the company who you called paid for your cellphone airtime? That way, the call would really be free, no minutes used!Jason Rosenbaum

I can see 800 number use peaking and perhaps declining, but I think it'll be a long, long time before it goes away.
