Ok I'm supposed to be working but when I get bored I'll surf over to Ebay and look around for a bit to get back with it.
I noticed that they are selling a full website with domain name and it already had CJ links all set up, all you need to do is change them to yours and optimize the page for metatags. The part I can't figure out is why people wouldn't make the sites and promote it themselves?? I thought there would be more money to be made that way than just selling the site for 10 to 15 bucks?

It depends.. the going rate for an affiliate site is about twelve times the monthly revenue, so if you can develop a site and start earning revenue from it than you can realise more cash more quickly.

A lot of auction sites tend to put the start price low but won't actually sell until it reaches a more realistic "reserve" price.

That having been said.. most of the domain names and sites being offered are worthless. (For example SaudiSatelite.com for $50,000 - note the typo - or JesusEaster.com for $10,000,000)

I guess somewhere in the 1,700 listings might be some real sites, but I've always preferred Yahoo! auctions because you can sort by the number of bids which helps to filter out the dross.

Some of the site that get sold like this one http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...ADME:B:ON:CA:1
or http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...tem=1749396051
Some of these sites get sold for very low amounts.
Just curious why people would make and sell instead of promoting?

Looks too professional to be sold for $5 and where is the minimum reserve? There is no way that I would create something and sell it for $5. Something smells!

GaryS,
There are a ton of them on there like that. I checked the ones that were sold too and the same thing. I'm wondering if the people forget to change the affiliate links to their own or?? Makes you wonder?

The second one is not even listed in Google. My advice - just don't go there!

I know better than that!
Most of the sites though for $5 if you can get it and add optimize tags yourself and then submit, still a bit faster that building own site at times?

Yeah if it looks too good to be true, look for the catch..

For the first one: "Hosting Account With Full Access and Control for $5.99 a month* (First month hosting is FREE)". It doesn't mention who pays for the escrow either. OK, not a blatant rip off from that but still suspicious - it could well be the escrow fees where it gets expensive.

The second one still hasn't met its reserve yet, so I guess they may be going for a higher amount.

You guys are missing the big picture. The med site is nothing more than a way to get affiliates.

it is a site for http://kwikmed.com/, I imagine there is some downline deal, or this is from kwickmed themselves. I would guess the exact same website design is being sold again and again. Add to that the hosting offer - which this site is designed by them, they know the low traffic, so they can make money that way.

It is a fairly smart way to make money again and again from one nice design.

So they build a site, sell it off cookie-cutter style and sign up everybody who buys a copy as a sub-affiliate.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

I would question whether anyone who would buy such a site would have enough cyber-savvy to achieve much as a sub-affiliate. I suspect this little scheme shows more profit from the hosting than from sub-affiliate bonuses.

Yeah, looks like an MLM style thing.

Because long URLs don't work here, just try searching for kwikmed.com on Google Groups.

Looks like Kwikmed's mode of business is to sell Viagra at inflated prices with allegations of poor prescription practices. There's lots of complaints of Kwikmed clone sites and spam too. Also check how many affiliates are pushing paid ads at Google.

Kwikmed get all these people trying to flog Viagra by fair means or foul at very minimal risk to them. For example, Overture is charging $6.27 for the top listing for "viagra" at the moment, so that's gonna eat into the affiliate's profit margin some.

If it looks like something's too good to be true, then it probably is

LOL! I had a phone call 2 years ago from some "hot-shot" who "had taken several companies public". He informed me that he "owns several internet operations, including several casino sites" and wanted me to work with him.

When I met with him, this is exactly what the sites turned out to be - affiliate sites he'd gotten off ebay.

I think he paid $200 a piece for them. Sounds like the price has since gone down.

I laughed all the way home. Isn't every day you get to politely inform a self-important corporate hot-shot that he's be had.

I noticed a month or so ago a fellow was buying a vstore site at eBay.... when I check the bidding was around $26 or so. Ummm, you can get that for free at vstore.com, right?

The only domains I've ever seen at ebay that were worth buying had LUDICROUS pricetags... which made them not worth buying. Someone may come upon a reasonably priced gem in there, but it's going to be the exception, not the rule.
