MSRP is $599 according to Walmart. The console hasn't been officialy released in the US yet. Release date is November 17th.

Will be very interesting to see and compare it to X-Box. MS has done a good job of getting ahead of Sony and selling over 5m of those already. It's pity that PS3 isn't gonna be released in Europe until after March 2007...

That's crazy... I wouldn't pay that much for the PS3. I can understand wanting it really bad but this is going overboard.

Well here's an interesting question, what would YOU buy if you had a spare $9,100 lying around?

I can think of lots of things but not one of them plugs into a TV set! :lol!

Evidently, PS3 does NOT have the capability to play older PS games as Sony said it would. Has anyone else heard this?

Actually, it can play the older games, but is having some "sounds and video" glitches in about 200 of the older titles. That's what I've read.

It's funny, because this morning I drove by my local Circuit City on my way to work and there were people CAMPED OUT FRONT! At first blush I thought they were being a little ridiculous. However, after seeing that ebay auction, I'm grabbing my sleeping back and calling in sick tomorrow!

If you look at the bidding history for the PS3, the guy could have got it for just over $2,500 (which is still too much), but he kept bidding the price up against himself.

Plus, out of a total of 7 seller comments, 2 of them are negative about him not wanting to pay for an item.

It looks like the price on eBay has been dropping. Yesterday, most units were going for around $3000. Today, many are going for $1200 or so.

The problem is prying the systems from the living zombies camping outside Best Buy.

    Things I am grateful for....
Wow, talk about the principle of supply and demand in action! sheesh.

As the holidays approach I have been reflecting on the many blessings in my life - just as I do every holiday season. I've been thinking about how graced I am to have a wife with whom the past 36 years have been filled with stability, joy, love, support and friendship. A friend who has supported my every dream, be it sound business or a long shot gamble, and a friend who has been a mother extrordianaire to our three sons.

As my mind was enjoying the thought of so many of the good things in my life, I popped onto ABW to see what's up this morning and saw this PS3 thread. After seeing these posts and visiting eBay for a first hand look at "me first" consumerism in action, I now have three more things to be grateful for:

1.) my sons were never addicted to game stations.
2.) two of our sons are now married, and the youngest is too busy to care - so there will be no endless pleas of: "geez, come on dad, we want a PS 3." (Zach once rode us for five straight years without end about wanting a Quad for Christmas, or his birthday, or MLK day, or Columbus day, Easter, Independence day, and probably even secretary's day lol)
3.) Ellen and I think more about investing for the future than we do about toys, so we are not a prospect for a PS 3. (whew!!!)

For those who are old enough to remember, when cabbage patch dolls hit the market many years back, endless lines of folks camping in front of stores filled the news. Same thing happened when Laser Tag hit the market back in the eighties (we did have to buy three sets of that one, and it was Ellen who found them at 3 a.m. at a store in Providence, RI)

For me, the only time I got hooked on a new intro frenzy item is when RS (Tandy) came out with their 16k computer, complete with tape memory "hard drive" that I believe cost around $400 back then. I hooked her up to a 13" B & W TV, plugged in the single tape casette deck, and I was off to the high tech races!

Yep, it's fun to watch the laws of supply and demand in action, and see the "be the first on your block to own a....." motivation ignite consumerism. But it's even more fun to know that I will not be camping on the concrete in front of a retail store this holiday season!

    now that's funny!

Anyway, the local paper on Saturday had a story about 2 guys in Sullivan, Indiana that stood in line for 36 hours so they could each get a PS3. Two 19-year-olds followed them all the way home and as the 2 guys were unloading their car, the teenagers approached them with a chain and a tire iron and demanded they hand over the PS3s. One of the guys grabbed a knife he had handy and by the time the whole thing was over, one of the guys had a busted nose and one of the teenagers had been stabbed. The police were called and arrested and hauled the teenagers off to jail (after a trip to the hospital I suppose).

I hadn't heard that story yet. It's amazing what someone would do to get their hands on a PS3.

Take a look at the video here... some people are really dedicated.
