Sony and NetEnforcers Authorized Dealer List
I just received an email from SonyStyle in regard to their relationship with NetEnforcers. Basically it's a response to an issue I had with them a few months ago - Thread here. This email apparently went out to all of the SonyStyle affiliates and it lists all of the merchants we may sell Sony products for. It lists companies like BestBuy, Circuit City, Amazon, and many others. But what concerns me is many big merchants who many of us promote are not listed.

According to this we may not sell Sony products for the following merchants:

    Adorama - Kolimbo
    NewEgg - CJ
    PCConnection - Performics
    TigerDirect - Linkshare
    Etronics - CJ

These merchants are apparently not authorized to sell Sony products and if we're caught linking to them we may be in store for a lawsuit. I'm sure there are others, but these are the ones I could find. If you do sell Sony products for these merchants I suggest you email your AM and see about getting them authorized with Sony. I know I will.

Now I think this concerns companies that sell Sony electronics, not their video games or home entertainment. They didn't list merchants selling Playstation 2 for example, so that's how I came up with this assumption. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Here are some more merchants selling Sony products who are not authorized:

    TheNerds.net - SAS
    Overstock.com - Linkshare
    Buy.com - CJ
    ComputerGeeks - CJ
    eCost - CJ
    SecondAct - CJ
    Tech4Less - AffiliateShop

If you're promoting any of these merchants you should contact them to find out why they aren't listed as an authorized Sony dealer.

They should take this up with the merchants instead of going after affiliates.

Hi Snib: I guess I'm dumb but I really don't understand this. Does this mean that if we are a Sony affiliate we can't also be an Overstock, Tiger Direct etc. affy?

No, this means we cannot link to Sony products on Overstock's site, but we may link to Sony products on SonyStyle, BestBuy, etc.

NetEnforcers is dumb. They don't know the difference between an affiliate and a merchant. That's why they sent me a C&D months ago for promoting Sony products through affiliate programs. I spoke with Sony's lawyers over the course of several weeks and this is the solution they came up with. They're going to send this list to NetEnforcers and tell them that if they find anybody (affiliate or merchant) selling products outside of the authorized list, they can send a C&D and threaten a lawsuit.

    It's ridiculous, I know.

Thanks, Snib. I do agree with Trust...Sony should go after the merchants.

Yes, this is what I received today from SonyStyle. If you'd like me to forward the email please send me a PM with your email address.

They do include a good number of merchants like PCMall, MacMall, BestBuy, Amazon, OfficeDepot, OfficeMax, Radio Shack, Walmart, Target, Sears, etc.

I'm waiting for a call back from Sony about this list. I'll be sure to ask if I can post the list publicly.
