    Multiple sites on one account
On one particular hosting account that I have, there are 3 pretty in-depth sites. I never really gave it much thought, but am considering the impact that this might have on proper ranking/indexing by the search engines.

Do you suppose that having 3 sites on one box would be too much (all sharing one IP)? And should it always be one site, one box?

One last thing, would it cause too much trouble to take these sites and place them on seperate boxes (not quite sure how G, Y, and MSN might react to this kind of move).

    Thanks.

Don't link them together. It is fine if they share an IP though. I don't think G M or Y really care where your site lives in my opinion.

Great. I was hoping that was the case. I mean, they haven't really shown any "distaste" in the sites on that box (they are indexing and ranking fine - at least for right now).

Also, I haven't linked between any sites that share the same IP.

    Thanks Scooter

I agree, I don't think a shared IP makes as much of a difference as we're made to believe. But I wouldn't say not to link them up. If there is a tie between the sites and the content is similar you're adding value for the visitors by adding those links. Best rule of thumb is to consider the visitors and do what you can to help them out.

No difference in shared IP as reported by Matt Cutts:

I agree with Snib, you can link them if they are related, but I wouldn't recommend linking them very heavily in comparison to your total links. If you have 100 inbounds, less than 5, if you have 1,000, then less than 50. These numbers are just guesswork on my part, but from experience I haven't had any trouble come from on topic links as long as I didn't go wild with them.

All that being said, I try to get all of my sites on different IPs now if possible, and I always read different C blocks is best.
