Hi Nick, I am an affiliate of FantasyJewelryBox and I'm working on some pages that will feature FantasyJewelryBox jewelry.

How does an affiliate use the coupon codes?

Does the affiliate create a clickable url/link out of a sentence with your above information using an url such as http://www.shareasale.com/u.cfm?d=2971&m=9576&u=XXXXXX ?

I'm not sure what to do with your information?

    Thanks for the info

Yes, Rhia. You need to link the piece of text to the aforementioned URLs but don't forget to include your affiliate ID. If any questions/problems please do let me know.

In other words, the affiliate uses the url you supplied to create text links with the information that is related to the url?

Nick, let's take this one as an example, do people have to remember the Coupon Code "buymore150"

or could I create a clickable link with http://www.shareasale.com/u.cfm?d=2973&m=9576&u=XXXXXX as the underlying live url and have it say "Get $25 Off Any Order Over $150" so that people get the discount automatically upon the click?

I'm not going to write "buymore" as text/link on one of my pages -- it subliminally kills the deal; however, I would be willing to write "Get $25 Off Any Order Over $150" if the customer can automatically benefit from the click.
If the customer has to remember codes and type it in at checkout it's not worth it because it wouldn't happen (the additional step would be too confusing).

Hold on, not sure if I understand correctly. You can just link to the home page and just post the codes right? Because the codes are good for dollar off xx orders.

Do we have to print in order to get the benefit: "Coupon Code: buymore150?"

If "buymore150" is required, could the AM change it to "special#1" or something like that? A word such as "special" or "gift" (with or without a code of let's say 150) is easier to remember and psychologically more pleasing than "buymore150."

    I won't type the word/phrase/term "buymore"

I would be willing to write: "Get $25 Off Any Order Over $150" on top of an underlying link if the discount is automatic upon the click.

I can see that there's some misunderstanding with regard to these coupons. The following applies to everyone - you can link to whatever page you want (mentioning the coupon code on your website) as long as you link via an affiliate URL. The discount is not automatic upon the click.

Does anyone else think that "buymore" is not appropriate for this type of coupons? If so, we will change the name.

I don't get what the problem is with buymore? As far as special#1, I would never have a # in the code, just stick to letters and/or numbers. The codes are fine.

You don't have to use "#" it's just the psychology of the wording -- anything is better than "buymore"

    "special" "gift" etc...

What was the specified url mentioned for if the discount is not automatic upon the click?

So the customer has to remember a code such as "buymore"?
I'd use a word such as "discount" or "special" or something where the customer psychologically is made to feel that he/she is getting some sort of price break or deal -- "buymore" doesn't generate the same psychology (imho)

I like buymore alot better than a group of numbers, not that either mean much to visitors. I think everyone learns copy and paste long before they figure out how to get on the internet.

Yes, they were added to the ShareASale's Deals Database back on 11/09/2006.

When a merchant adds deals/coupons to SaS "Coupons & Deals" database, each deal/coupon gets a unique URL from SaS. That was what Nick quoted in the very first post. These URLs may lead to a deal-specific page, or to the merchant's homepage (whatever the merchant decides). In the case with the above-quoted five deals, they all link to FantasyJewelryBox's homepage, as the deal(s) may be applied throughout the website and are not tied to a particular product or a group of products.

Anyone wants to second this suggestion?

I will have no problem changing the coupon codes to something different from the "buymore". However, keeping in mind that hundreds of affiliates already have the "buymore" codes listed, it will inevitably cause inconvenience for them... That is why I am now asking what other affiliates think: keep it as "buymore" or change it?

Many thanks in advance for your feedback, everyone.

    Do NOT Change.

Let's not underestimate our customers. How many do you think that use coupon coded even know what the code is? They see a code -- copy and paste.

No don't change. The codes are fine. Your affiliates already have them up. Seriously shoppers don't care what it is, like sueapitman said most just copy and paste.

ooooh no, no, no lol please don't go changing the codes now. Just for clarification, though... you are referring to the Coupon Code: buymore500, Coupon Code: buymore250, correct? Nothing has changed to us just being supposed to say only "Buy more"

I had put these links on a while back either through the email informing me or the links being at SAS on the one site and am just now putting it on the other, too. I definitely agree with Sue and Trust. Pretty please don't go making us change the codes now. Got way too many of em already and still have more to do without having to to go changing some that I've already done.

"buymore" has a repulsive sales-pitchy tone to it; makes the customer feel like they are being browbeaten by a fast-talking coin dealer.

Why not use something more customer-comfortable like "125500", "50250", "10100".

    How hard is that?

"Seriously shoppers don't care what it is" - no, they may not "care what it is", but the pitchy tone does nothing to help with them ready to dig into their wallet in the first place. Many people's response (both conscious and subconscious) would be for their arms to get shorter and their pockets to get deeper.

3 affiliates said - leave 'em the way they are, 2 expressed interesting points about the consumer psychology that could make good reasons for the changing of the coupon codes. I am not going to change them now. These coupons will be valid for only 14 more days, and I will leave the codes in place not to mess anyone's site. However, in the future, I will make sure my merchants avoid similar words in their coupon codes.

Thank you, everyone, for your input and best of luck selling the FantasyJewelryBox jewelry!!
