Question Newbe AM question re third party tracking pixels
Scenario: An affiliate asks that we place their, or an ASP tool's (like adtrackz.com), tracking pixel on CyberCucina's thank-you page.

Question: Doesn't that give that party (the web affiliate or the tracking company) access to ALL our sales. Can't they "see" / count EVERY sale we have, and potentially know the dollar value of every sale too (not just theirs)?

Thanks in advance for helping clarify.

I know with Adtrackz you can see not only sales but traffic, for ALL your affiliates and the own merchant traffic.
"Adtrackz let's you see where all your traffic is coming from, and then automatically analyzes the return of investment of those sources so you can focus your time on campaigns that make money, and drop those that don't."

That's the best tool for an "AdWhore" to "cherry pick" the best keywords to overwrite other affiliate cookies.

I can't believe somebody will ask the merchant to place their own bug...

    access to ALL our sales.
Not a good idea. I would not suggest letting any of those types of partners access to your stats.

Zeus / Jorge- The scenario is really "would you place my pixel on your thank-you page". That's the question I'm getting the most (a few times in the last week). So same answers? (not sure if you guys gave me JUST an "adtrakz" answer).

    Thanks again,

I've a tracker, a sophisticated pixel (developped by a few of my friends, ex MindSpring) I can place on any page of my sites. ( or yours )
I assure you I'll know everything of your activities in a few days. I must be too shy to ask my merchants to load it on their carts.
Who knows what's behind a "pixel"?

Agreed. Don't place that pixel. If they really insist and you really want to work with these people, make a custom thank you page that is just for their sales. They can track their own sales (if you wish) all they want, with no access to your others.

Bob, right, my answer was in general for any tracking.

In some cases it could be a great idea if your merchant is only allowing one or two TOP, TOP ppc partners that do not do any tricks and just want to make sales for you even better by helping merchant, but even then not a good idea.

I wouldn't do it. There's too much proprietary information they could get.
