So your merchant doesn't want to pay us a commission on computers anymore because they say that they're losing money if they do. What's next...toasters? Grumble...grumble

    Any opinions out there?

This is the text I received:

From now on, any publisher whose site originates a sale of a computer on myTVproducts will NO LONGER BE PAID COMMISSION for that sale. Our margin is very low on computers and we actually lose money by paying commission on these items.

    See what I mean now???

If they can't afford to sell 'em, don't sell 'em.

They're right about margins being wafer thin, but all they'll do is drive their publishers away.

That was exactly my first thought...drop them. I still need to take a look at the numbers first though. Only if the majority of their affiliates dropped out would they change...and I imagine that there are many that are inactive or don't pay much attention to this kind of thing. I know that margins are slim, but you can't just "bite the hands that feed you".

    Jarec,

Got your PM. I'll approve your app as soon as you put it through.

We don't have a problem with thin margins, we make it up in volume !!

Listen to chinasky, he has been on my top 10 for months...

    I received the same email.

I didn't even know they sold computers. I haven't made up my mind if I'll drop them on the principal or not. Where I'm promoting them is not computer orientated. I don't think I've ever had a large sale from them.

At least they were honest and upfront and not just reversing as they see fit. For once we have a warning.

I never promoted their computers with any real seriousness anyway so I don't care too much if they pay commissions on 'em or not.

Jarec, having the "w*rk" screen in the other window can help...once you've read all the recent posts just use the other window until enough new posts come in to come back here.

Of course, there will still be days when nothing gets done despite precautions but it's not like you're going to get fired!

    too funny, Leader

I suppose that you're right...I could always smack my hand or something.

I guess I'm new enough that I haven't experienced reversing without any warning...that doesn't sound like a picnic.

jarec, i refer you to this board and you're already causing trouble eh?

Seriously, welcome. You've been busy already. Just don't blame me when you find yourself spending all your time surfing here instead of building your site.

    Jim,

This is ALL YOUR FAULT. Do you realize I didn't get anything accomplished today? I'm gonna have to put some kid's ABW filter on here to keep me away now. Do they sell those in the ABW Store?

Of course, I did line up a new client today, so I guess it wasn't a total loss.

Oh, and I would never dream of stirring up trouble...I'm the shy, quiet, keep-to-myself type. Thanks again for the tip.

Ah once you get caught up with all the messages here it's not so bad as far as time goes. Though this place is definately addicting!

I just keep wondering what were all gonna do when Haiko shuts down to upgrade, it will probably be worse withdrawal than not being able to check stats at cj when they are down

LOL:"But if the hand stops feeding you go ahead and bite....Mike"

Well my sites do sell a pile of computers and computer products from merchants like TigerDirect ...not myTVproducts. Pretty lame showcasing TV infomercial merchants anyhow since they definaitey excell in telemarketing call center diversion tactics. Jump on TD's bandwagon and do not waste your time on eCost or PcMall at CJ since they reverse over 50% of all my orders.

I suppose you would have to take in consideration your audience in a particular site. There are two of my sites that require viewers to be Jerry Springer watchers as well...lame? ...maybe; in tune with demographics...hopefully. I do see your point though and thanks for the tip about those two merchants

Pick your infomercial product carefully and it definitely adds to the bottom line, the paycheck.

I had the same reaction as Canfree about whether to drop them on principle. However, for what I'm sending them traffic it's highly doubtful they get diverted and buy a computer.

It's not how big the commercials are, it's how you target the consumer response .

BTW,Jarec, I may have to implement your filter idea... darn maintenance work is almost as boring as house cleaning. I keep dropping in here when I need to be tracking down all my Deliverall links and replacing them.

I might offer the ABW filter in my software section, but "we're running too close on the margins so we won't be able to pay a commission to affiliates" heehee

Site maintenance is *just as boring* as housecleaning.

Difference is, I don't get paid for housecleaning!
