Target's terrible datafeed leads to a horrible conversion rate
I just wanted to post a gripe about Target. I've been sending them a great deal of traffic lately and their conversion rate is terrible. I'm seeing a .24% conversion. I blame their datafeed. A huge chunk of products are out of stock and most of the time they don't list the sale price (only the high price). So in my case where I run a price comparison Target has the worst price of all my merchants. So the few visitors that are willing to click over on that high price usually find out that the product is out of stock.

I update my datafeeds nightly, so there is no reason for me to be sending customers to out of stock product pages. I've emailed Target numerous times about this over the past couple years and they haven't done squat to fix it. Maybe I can leverage the ABW community to send emails to Target to get them to correct these huge outstanding problems. I keep hearing great things about their program, but with such inadequate marketing materials I'm at a huge loss.

Something is seriously wrong with Target lately. We used to convert at around 4% but the last two months it's down to about .48%. I think there is a problem with their tracking or a problem on LS's end.

They are converting fine here, I went randomly through the feed and found correct prices.
Do you have examples of some products that are wrong?

I just did a very quick look and here are 7 errors out of the 8 products that I checked.

    Out of Stock:

HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7650n PC Desktop
Polaroid 47" HDReady LCD TV FLM4701
Toshiba 62" Diagonal HDTV Integrated DLP TV - 62HM195
Silver DVD Digital Theater System - THC7
HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7650n PC Desktop

    Incorrect Price:

Toshiba PixelPure DLP Projection TV - 56" (56HM66)
    DF Price: $2699.99
    Actual Price: $1699.99
    ($1,000 difference in price!!)

    Toshiba Projection TV - 50" (50HM66)
    DF Price: $1799.99
    Actual Price: $1499.99

I just updated the datafeed from Linkshare to ensure I've got the freshest data. These discrepancies reflect the latest update.

    All,
I talked to the Target AM and Target is aware of the issues with their datafeed. They are working diligently to resolve this issue.

    Ranae:

I contacted Target telling them I had a decent size sale show up with no commission showing but it has been a couple of weeks now. Could you please advise.

    Jack,
You should file a Transaction Inquiry. Follow the steps below:
    * Log into your LinkShare account
    * Go to the Home tab
    * Select Transaction Inquiries below Run Reports (on the right navigation) and then choose Submit Transaction Inquiry.
    * Complete the Transaction Inquiry form.

Target is usually on top of their TIs. Hope this helps!

    Snib and All,
I just got a message from the Target AM and the datafeeds have been fixed. The new files were uploaded today so you should be able to pull the correct data today.

Target sales since the day before thanksgiving ...
I just wanted to check if anyone else is having this problem:

I had a decent month with Target (around 5% conversion) up until the day before thanksgiving and since then my conversion dropped to around 1%. Is this because Target still has a huge order backlog waiting to be shipped and hence we didn't see the commission yet? or is there something wrong with the sales tracking?

Usually target sales credited to my account in a day or two, in this case it's been 5 days already and only I would say 10% of the sales are shown so far.

    Anyone else see this?

    Murat

I just checked the datafeed and it's still not fixed. There are still products that are out of stock. For example all of the Nintendo Wii bundles are still included, but they've been out of stock for well over a week now.

There is also a problem with the datafeed formatting that I've emailed about. This is a fairly serious problem and is a big NO-NO in datafeeds. Target is listing some products' brand name like this: "Sega of America, Inc. without the closing quote. If you know anything about spreadsheet parsing, that quote means to ignore any delimiters, so all of the following |'s will be included in this field until the closing quote is found. So as a result I end up with a brand name that looks like this:

    Sega of America, Inc.||1|010086670059||USD||http://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=...

This is a major problem in the formatting of the datafeed. That quote should not be there. Most datafeed parsing scripts will interpret it this way and it's not a good idea to remove this aspect of the interpretation because many merchants do use quotes properly in datafeeds.

    Please fix this!!!

I just checked a handful of products and Target is still showing the wrong price in the datafeed. It doesn't look like anything was fixed at all.

    Snib,
I have emailed this thread to the Target AM. I have been told that they fixed the files and that the datafeeds downloaded tomorrow (12/2) should be correct.

Time to fix it permanantly, with the command,

    Delete from [tablename] where merchantname = "Target";

It's not converting so you might as well. I'm sure your viewers won't miss seeing those glopped-up brand names or prices that say the stuff is $1k more than the site's actually charging!
