    Dollar's Decline
Not sure how many of you are following it (since most of active ABW-ers are within the USA, and do not go through exchange rates often), but dollar hasn't been feeling very well lately.

Sterling, for example is now at its 14-year high against the dollar, and the dollar decline drags down the whole of the stock market [also here].

    Not good.

    It better get stabilized soon...

It's the opposite here in Singapore, I see the currency exchange rate going down with every check I bank in (= US$ getting stronger).

Equity markets are healthy here for now, but if the exchange rate declines further our local export products become worth less. This would have an effect on earnings, especially of the exporters to the US, and eventually on our stock market.

From my perspective it would be good if the US$ weakens a little.

    Hi geno
We struggle in South Africa, the dollar rate is 1-8 ZAR the pound is 1-14 ZAR and i thing the euro is hovering around 1-9.5ZAR or there abouts. Recently with trying to start an online business ive kept my eye on the $, i suppose if it weakens slightly for you guys in the US it affects the price of everything. With our exchange rate i find it extremely difficult to purchase in $, how would you feel if you had to pay $160 for a $20 ebook - my predicament. For the corporations in SA who are earning dollars its fabulous.

Your currency will no doubt be back up there!

In Russia the dollar value is dimishing daily. We're now back at the rate we were at 3 years ago...

I spoke to my dad a minute ago, he's been trading internationally for the last 50 years he says the SA Rand has strengthened a bit over the Dollar, but what he did say was that over the years here in SA its been a yo-yo ride dropping and increasing by huge numbers. That has always created a sense of uneasiness. I dont know what is worse knowing that its droped and will stabilise for the next year or every day have a different dollar value and not by 1 cent or so. Weekly it could hop between 1 to 10 cents - thats huge.

Who knows where its all going

I'm with LearnAbout, the stronger the Canadian dollar is against the US dollar, the more I make on the currency exchange. Every bit helps for sure! On the down side, our dollar is somewhat linked to your US$ dollar (similar market forces) and can easily slide along with it.

Geno, I saw where Google stock crossed $500 the other day. What could possibly go wrong?

I miss the days when going to Canada was a good bargain, exchange US dollar for $1.35 or so Canadian. Last time I went up it was only $1.11.

Ya, what's bad for you in the States is good for us in Canada - we can go there and get great exchange on our buck right now. Or even on eBay or sites like that where you're spending USD. It's good for us - at least for now...

wait till china unpegs its currency..
China holds over $1 trillion ($1,000,000,000,000) of US dollars.
The elections came the same week China announced that its foreign exchange reserves -- mostly held in the form of U.S. debt -- had crossed the $1 trillion mark.

That will shake the world's economy..

$US has dropped against the $AU. Basically US affiliates don't notice, and foreign affiliates earn less from their US merchants. It would be best for most of us if the $US got stronger!

I love freedom, Richard. If I hated it, I would move to Belarus.

The price of the dollar will keep falling until the fed cuts the rate then it will stablize. It will still continue to go down over time as we are printing too much money and leaving it in circulation. Can anyone tell me how much money was printed last month. I doubt it as the US has stopped informing the public on that information as of about two months ago.

Gold will continue to rise based on the above factor, and Google will be at $650 before the Superbowl. Hedge fund mangers that have to meet a goal for the end of the year are stuffing their portfolio with Google stock.

I have been betting afgainst the dollar vs the Euro for a few months now. Taking the profit and buying gold.

And you guys thought I just did adsense lol
