THE STORY OF THE CRAB BUCKET

One time a man was walking along the beach and say another man fishing in the surf with a bait bucket beside him. As he drew closer, he saw that the bait bucket had no lid and had live crabs inside.

"Why don't you cover your bait bucket so the crabs won't escape?", he said.

"You don't understand.", the man replied, "If there is one crab in the bucket it would surely crawl out very quickly. However, when there are many crabs in the bucket, if one tries to crawl up the side, the others grab hold of it and pull it back down so that it will share the same fate as the rest of them."

So it is with people. If one tries to do something different, get better grades, better jobs, improve themselves, escape their environment, or dream big dreams, other people will try to drag them back down to share their fate.

Moral of the story: Ignore the crabs. Charge ahead and do what is right for you. It may not be easy and you may not succeed as much as you like, but you will NEVER share the same fate as those never try.

This is a great story.
We start every meeting at work with a "reflection" and this one is perfect for a couple of my teams.
Do you know the source?

Gayle,

I've had that for years...was passed on from one of my sales people when i ran an advertising sales team.

My sales force would always complain sales were slow, the times were tough, blah,blah,... this sales person came in and said, hey my sales are soaring, and it's because i'm not letting myself get dragged down by negativity. Sure enough, he had a great quarter and he kicked some butt. His difference, he didn't listen to anything that would allow him to get dragged down - he was focused and determined !!

Here another simple one i have on my desk:

What is the meaning of the last 4 letters of the word "enthusiasm" ?

i - I
a = am
s = sold
m = myself

If you don't beleive in your product, work, website, whatever - why should anyone else? When you are fired up about something, you make it happen.

Forget the 1,000,000 in sales we are going for, i'm now going for 2,000,000 by years end !!!

lol we have it this way here;

There were pits for every nation and for Turks in the pits of hell. Every nations' pit has one demon to look after them in case someone might want to escape. But we(Turks) dont have one to look after us. Someone from the other pits asks:
"why dont Turks have a demon to look after them?" other one replies,
"if one of them try to escape someone below him would pull him back, that's why"

Nice story..

In my world, it's a little different however.. Where I live, mediocrity is a crime! We also pay homage every day to all the average people, for without all those people settling for their avergae lives, it would be a lot harder to get ahead.
