Hello All,

Well it's been several months, but I finally have something to show you. I've authored a script that allows affiliate sites to redirect their visitors to affiliate programs based on a search box.

To see it in action goto http://SearchToSale.com

The basic version is ready and I believe the bugs worked out. But I'm working on the advanced model and would like your input.

The basic model will work for most smaller affiliates and sites. The advanced version is for power affiliates. One of the things I'll do it support additional tracking images (the 1x1 pixels) and logging.

You can post here, or on the support forums on the site. Thanks in advance. You've always helped us in the past.

Very nice powerful tool for shopping sites. Would be nice to make the database support categories of merchants which would show several affiliate enabled merchants. ie -term: "computer products" shows listings and brief description for Pcmall -TigerDirect- PcWarehouse. Workaround would be a keyword URL page of computer merchants your affiliated with.. Nice addition would be a pull down list of common (canned URL redirect) terms to help first time users!

AffJus, I just took a look at it and it is something I would really like. The problem with me is I am pretty pittiful when it comes to adding something like that to my pages. Is something like that easy to set up for affiliates that aren't all that great when it comes to prgramming. I use Frontpage2000. I still have a lot to learn.

I just took a look at the questions section and see that I would have a lot to learn. Eeeks. I know if I could ever figure it out it is something I would buy. Hmmmm, might have to track Pete down. <IMG src=http://www.abestweb.com/ubb/icons/icon38.gif>

You can do that somewhat yourself. Just create that page with all the computer affiliates and redirect the script to that page based on the search terms.

    What do you think?

    (thanks for the feedback.)

It's easy to setup, but I understand your position. That's why I'm offering professional installation. All I'd need is an FTP account to your account and I can set it up in 10 minutes.

Yes, that's what I meant. Sorry I didn't read that part in your original msg.

I could add that, but then that'd be a separate box, because of the way html works. (I think) A drop down box and input box (text) are two separate things. I'm not sure what I could get a browser to properly display it or handle the input. ..Humm. Just thinking.... yes, I think I know how I could this. Yes, I think I can. Let me see how people use the script and I'll see about addding it in. But I'd have to keep it a short list. Otherwise when they click on the drop down button it'd just display 200 search terms and confuse the heck out of them.

If the basic and advanced versions are well received, I will do a database (mySQL/PHP) version. My reason for not initially is the work involved in installation. cgi is straight forward and easily portable. A database version would be more complicated to install, and backing up the list of terms (which can grow quite large) is more than what most webmasters can comfortably do. However, I personally would like such a version, so at some point, if demand is there, so will be the mySQL version.

I tried out the search tool quickly and everything I put in came back with the same response, that there were no predefined search results so I was being defaulted to DMOZ. I assume that the idea is that we define products with our affiliate links and when someone searches they can click on our link for the product and go directly to the merchant site and we get the sale. When we don't have any results, they default to DMOZ. If I'm right about this, I'd like to see it in action with a keyword that does have predefined results so that I could see it do its primary function. Could you post a couple of keywords that there are results for so we could all check it out? Thanks, Dave

Yes, you can use dogs or skateboards to see the redirection. On the main page there are two links to samples of the admin page. If you click on them, you'll see how it's setup. (but those screen caps may or may not be currently what is in the database, it's just to provide an example.)

Thanks for looking and look forward to hearing from you.
