    Let's not forget Orthodox Christmas...
Orthodox Christmas is still coming up, folks. I can't really guess how many people celebrate it, since there has been a lot of politics vis-a-vis old Julian vs. Gregorian vs. new Julian calendars. Even so, an article from 2004 says there are 20,000 people celebrating Orthodox Christmas just here in Pittsburgh.

Hmmm... this might be good for some offline advertising.

    Just a thought.

There's a reason army's wear uniforms even though it makes them easier to spot. Sometimes that's what you want. Uniforms suggest organization, power, and numbers. These, in turn, inspire fear. And, as any good operative knows, there is no more effective weapon than fear.

7th of January - Orthodox Christmas
14th of January - New Year (according to the Julian Calendar)

Estimates of the number of Eastern Orthodox Christians worldwide range from 50 million to 350 million, with 220 million being one of the most commonly cited figures.[2] Eastern Orthodoxy is the largest single religious faith in Belarus (60%), Bulgaria (85%), Cyprus (78%), Georgia (89%), Greece (98%), Republic of Macedonia (67%), Moldova (99%), Montenegro (74%), Romania (87%), Russia (54%), Serbia (80%), and Ukraine (76%). It is also dominant religion in Republika Srpska entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina (90%), and dominant religion in northern Kazakhstan. In addition, there are also large Orthodox communities in Africa, Asia, Australia, North America, and South America.

Generally, most of the Diaspora from the above mentioned countries will be your targets for Orthodox Christmas - so if you want to get a higher conversion rate, having some sort of 'cultural' mention for the larger groups (i.e. Russians, Greeks, Romanians) will definately be a plus.

Good stats reporting, Rogi. It was also sweet to see both Russia and Moldova on the list...

Yes, the New Year according to the Julian Calendar is also very widely celebrated. Russians call it the "Old New Year's" (funny, I know, but the phrase comes from shortening the phrase "New Year's according to the old calendar"). Honestly, it is not such big (yes, I did say wide, but not deep at all) a celebration as the actual New Years (on the night of 12/31). Really more of an excuse to celebrate and give out gifts to your loved ones; and also the date after which many take down their Christmas Trees... However, the Orthodox Christmas (on the 7th of January) is indeed celebrated seriously. Targetting Russian, Greek, Geogrian, Romanian, Ukrainian, and other diasporas for that particular holiday is definitely a good idea.

You should definitely through Bulgarian's on that list as well, especially considering how tech/online friendly they are and how strong the Orthodox church is there.
