    End of an Era
I was just doing my year-end tax planning, and in doing so I input my projected payments for December from Google AdSense, Amazon, ShareASale, and others (that is, payments I expect to receive in January, since they will represent 80% of my expected "personal affiliate" revenue for Q1 2007). And I noticed that for the first time in 40 months, I will receive no payment from Commission Junction.

As I've mentioned in several other discussion threads on ABW, I've pulled all CJ links from all my sites, except for links from a single site to a single merchant -- whose links were "demoted" but not deleted. I had expected sales for that merchant to drop near zero, but instead they've continued at about half the earlier rate. Since this merchant sells stuff for teachers, sales normally peak in September and January, and usually decline in December -- and thus December is the first month since May 2004 when my earnings did not reach $25 (during those 40 months, CJ paid me more than $2,500 total).

My decision to "demote" this last merchant's CJ links has proven a wonderful boost: while updating the site, I added links to a competitor with a much better conversion rate and a higher commission -- earning me over $500 per month from the same traffic that used to generate under $100 in montly commissions from the CJ merchant. (The site also generates Amazon and AdSense earnings, and the Amazon sales have ticked upward with the site re-design also.)

Yes, the winds of commissions are changing.... drastically.

Just goes to show that there is more than one way to view the affiliates world.
Glad to see that ABWers are diversified.

There is a bit too much KOOL AID posts here from time to time.
