    Decreased Day Job by 25%
My New Year's resolution was to transition from the day job to affiliate marketing full time. So I decided to get right to it. I've decreased my day job from 40 to 30 hours. Wasn't ready to give up the benefits in one jump so I decided to phase out the job incrementally and see if I could consistently make the numbers work and develop a strategy to get the insurance in place.

I like your thinking! If I could get my affiliate marketing gig to earn the big bucks that I aspire to, I'd love to drop down to 3/4 time. I enjoy my day job and don't think I'd want to totally give it up, but would love more time to spend with the family and work on sites.

Congrats on your decision--hope it works out for the best!

Good for you Aunt Lily! That's a major step that few would be able to take. Very commendable! Best of luck

As for insurance benefits, have you considered marriage? Works for me!

    Aunt L,

Trying to think back what was the most troublesome thing when i went online full time....

    IT'S THE MONEY

Have $5000 in a savings account first!!!!!

In the real world, your paycheck is there every Friday - guaranteed. In our world, paychecks show up "whenever the merchants get around to sending them" - which as you know, can be 6 months after a sale is made.

When I made the switch, i relied on casino markers to get me thru while I waited for commission checks to eventually show up.

    So... have a reserve.

That's great Aunt Lily! That's exactly what I did. I stopped working one day of the week so I could build up my online business. After less than a year of working 32 hours a week I was finally able to say good bye. I'll never forget that day I walked into my manager's office to tell her I'm quitting!

    Thank you everyone.

Today was the end of my first 4 day week. It's a good feeling to get more time to devote to something that I truly enjoy.

Well done Aunt Lily, I made that change 3 years ago, to 4 days from 5 and I love it. In fact it made me appreciate my day job all the more and I still do it out of choice rather than necessity.

It's only one day, but you seem to get double benefit, one less day to work and get stressed and then one extra day to recover. Just before Christmas I did go in after a 2 day weekend, and while it was a nice Christmas atmosphere, I really felt the difference, made me wonder how I ever got by with only a 2 day weekend!

There's also the fact that suddenly I just seemed to step sideways out of the petty politics and angst surrounding a job that most people HAVE to do with no choice.

The best thing is the freedom and flexibility, even though I'm not my own boss at the employed job, I get treated very differently to when they knew I HAD to go in no choice. I could have gone f/t aff a couple of years ago (I might still go to 3 days, not 4), but now I do what suits me.
