    Baby Born In Thai Taxi

As it is the new year I thought I would post one of my favourite pictures. The police are from a special unit of midwives that help deliver babies on Bangkok's congested roads.

    Good new year to you,

I'm sure the woman would have much preferred to have given birth in a hospital but was very grateful to have that special unit of midwives around. My brother once helped deliver a baby when he was a cop and she even named the baby after him.

The photographer definitely happened to have great timing to happen to be there for that picture

Oh boy - don't assume your baby is gonna look like that when it's born. LOL - They are usually slimy, messy and look like aliens, although your baby will be gorgeous to you no matter what and they do look way better after a few hours of oxygen.

    No Montage
No montage I was with the special midwife unit and it was a real birth.
If you visit my website www.jonathantaylor.net you can see the whole story. Not that there hasn't been other people doubt the validity of the picture. An editor once ask me to send him some more from the series with more blood in it to prove it was real.

Actually if you see the pictures on my website I followed the mother all the way to the hospital, she is looking rather weary as she gets out of the cab. But I suppose I could have faked that too right!

The worst scepticism I ever had over my work was on a homicide picture. My editor asked if I actually moved the corpse because it was sprayed out so perfectly. Probably a compliment in a weird back handed way.

Purple Bear: I found a baby that was named after the police officer who delivered the baby too whilst on this assignment, by the way.

I visited the web site and looked at all the pictures. Really great photography Yeap, the new Mom definitely looks a bit weary. Is the man in the white shirt and tie in that photograph the husband? I'm guessing if they have a special unit the answer is yes, but .....does this happen a lot to the women in Thailand? Think maybe living within walking distance to the hospital might be a good idea

That baby must have been cleaned up some before the photo was taken, to be that squeaky clean.

Amazing! I wonder if they pay taxes into funding the "special unit" of midwives who do this on the road when traffic is jammed? Seems to me that maybe they should review use of those dollars and perhaps reallocate them into clearing up traffic congestion and opening other routes/widening routes etc if traffic really is that bad... or maybe build MORE hospitals!

Well in the meantime that's a great service to have on hand since the roads ARE that jammed. And I thought traffic in Toronto was bad...

It's a good thing that special unit of midwives are there to deliver the baby amidst the congested traffic jam of Bangkok.

There's more unusual 'giving birth' stories like this in my country, but what fascinates me the most about the story is that the newly born baby looks awfully clean and tidy.

I just hope though, we could also have a special task force midwives in the congested streets of Manila to save more mothers and babies from being in jeopardy in the midst of traffic jam.
