    Quit Crying You Babies..
So I found ABW about a week ago. It didn't take long to find that this place seems to be FILLED with whining babies.

Every other post seems to be "blah blah LS sux blah blah" or "blah blah <insert company name> sux blah blah"..

It's amazing how you $10k/month affiliates (and under) seem to think that these large corporations OWE you something.

Your time would be better spent realizing that anyone earning under about $50k/month from these networks is a very small player and not deserving of much attention.

    Be grateful..

One of the stupidest things I have ever seen posted. In any marketing channel your long term growth is based on "the tail". The same is true in the affiliate channel, the more time you take to up lift the under 5k a month affiliates the healthier your program is. This guy should go back to Marketing 101.

We are in here looking and listening. So are other corporations whose AMs I have been talking to, and some of them are at or near the billion dollar corporation level. Trust me, they check through the forums but don't always sign up for an account.

Also, we do owe them something, they get the business we cannot reach before it goes to our competition. No matter how much they make you cannot loose some fo the small sales and btw someone doing 10K a month isn't that small. It definitely ads up as Haiko showed and definitely creates a market and forum worth watching.

So if I am earning $50K a month or more I will get special treatment from the networks? Can you please direct me to the rep that handles the $50k and up affiliates? Thanks for the help and for your positive post!
    Will you be my mentor?

Angel, perhaps you should explain what a tail is, in the context you used it. Otherwise it's likely to cause some confusion (and a few giggles).

This post is only a reminder of why I like ABW so much. Fortunately, ignorant posts like this are far and few between here.

    lol...ok I will give it a go.

Basically the "tail" or "long tail" usually consists of that element of your business that is outside the largest individual producers. In the affiliate channel usually 10% of your affiliates are individually driving the majority of your sales. If, as a merchant, you only focus on that 10% the channel becomes very atrophied and ROAS diminishes as costs inflate. However, if you attempt to cultivate the "tail" element, your overall program will be healthier in dimension AND often that "tail" represents in aggregate a greater influx of revenue.

Kind of like Haiko intuitively pointed that out in his equation earlier.

Don't worry. Most of the whiners don't stick around very long. They typically just post a "FILLED with whining babies" post and then leave.

Affiliate marketing isn't about companies owing anyone anything. It's about affiliates generating sales for companies. Whether it's one sale a year or thousands of sales a day, it's a win-win situation. I think affiliates and merchants do owe each other certain things, though, if they expect to get the most out of affiliate marketing. Honesty, integrity, and accurate tracking and reporting are a few things that come to mind.

That's not true. An affiliate earning even $10k/month at CJ earns CJ $36k/year. That's significant, a certainly justifies a few hours a week of personal attention.

Ana, I've never met Angel so I'll take your word for it about his tail.

And while I do consider myself a connoisseur of the male derriere I must mention that, in the context that Angel used the word tail, it's a reference to statistics. (The tail is the flattish part at each end of a Bell curve.)

Angel's wonderful, as is Michael and his explanation. We have wonderful people surrounding us in this venue! (and lots of tails)

Your insights are always great to read, Rhea. I'm looking forward to meeting you. Will you make it to Vegas?

    Angel will be there!

Bravo to all the rectifying comments here!

Perhaps we could start a "$10K A Month" Club.

Maybe IAmMe could be the moderator!

You would probably be surprised by how many big fish are on this forum. I agree that there is a lot of comisserating here, I do it too, but I think you might be suprised by how much you can learn here as well.
