I'd say the spammer isn't stupid, rather he's hoping that some of the recipients are...

Yikes Deb - my computer tech screamed at me for having the preview window activated. I think it's very not good.

I don't use Outlook, I use Eudora, the preview window there is different, it's safer than the Outlook window

i try not to read spam cos you will just encourage them. tracking pixel will or can be used to inform them that it's a valid email and your email will be resold

The email addresses I get spam to are as old as the internet and they already know they are valid. Eudora is pretty good, I don't think the email looks read unless it actually is opened. The way I see the emails, they are not opened.

Regardless, I get over 3000 spams a day, one more or less isn't going to matter.

I love Mailwasher. The extra step doesn't bother me before bringing anything useful into OE.

As of yesterday (one address, my oldest domain address):

    emails Received: 24873
    emails Filtered: 23910
    Spam as Percentage: 96.12%

(why the hell is the board lowercasing "emails"?)

    Anyway....

The only legit email that ever comes to that address really anymore is family and a few friends. They're whitelisted, pretty much everything else is blocked by blacklists, by SBLs or picked up with the learning filters.

It's been at "96%" for a while (I had to figure out the true percentage since Mailwasher rounds it) so I doubt it's going much higher if after all the time of being at 96% it's only 96.12.

Can't remember the last time I reset everything but it's been a while. MW only keeps 4 weeks worth of recent logs, but the overall total is older than that. But that's 23 thousand emails never even seen by me, can't complain.

This passed by quietly, but really does warrant closer attention.

So is that a personal opinion, that an email spammer did a good thing and did a good job by managing to get around the email spam filter? Is it just a personal opinion, or is that very transparent and revealing comment a representation of the attitude of CPA networks overall?

I forgot about MailWasher, I used it years ago... it's still around? I don't remember why I stopped, I actually think it was too difficult for the legit mail to get through... Might be worth taking a second look.

Plus the bounce feature was creating bounce loops that caused more problems than they solved...

Yeah, it's still around. Version 5.3 I believe. I'm behind as usual with 5.0, not sure what has changed. I've done tons of tests with it, and I've sort of come up with my own formula for getting to where I am. It required a lot of strict filtering, and I wouldn't recommend my kind of filtering on an email address that needs to be very reliable.

My kind of filtering is more for a personal address that gets some good emails but you can easily whitelist everyone. On addresses, like most of my others, where I never know where a legit email is going to come from (domain wise) then I don't do it. I rely mostly on SpamAssassin server-side for those, and it does a semi-decent job.

I never use the Bounce feature, since most of the addresses are going to be forged anyway. But they're addresses I'd never receive email from anyway (at least at that particular address) so just deleting them works fine for me.

And yeah, webworker, that certainly caught my eye but I just didn't feel like getting into it at the moment...
