    Ice, ice, baby
The ice storm arrived in upstate New York. While it's very pretty to look at it's treacherous to walk on. Hubby went to work in spite of me whining at him not to..and arrived to find that the power was out.

We still have no snow on the ground so I guess this is our official start to winter. It's an improvement over our first winter here when it snowed every few days and our second winter here when the temps never got above freezing for 20 straight days (and the low hit -15, -50 if you factor in the wind chill).

Did you get an ice storm where you live, too?

looks like a little warmer air up there in Rochester, but down here in CNY it's a little cooler and we're still covered in ice. The very light rain we're having here in the valley may clear some of it up, but I'm hearing about trees down on the road up in the hills.

I don't mind the rain; you don't have to shovel it.

Did you say "I told you so?"

I am lucky if we get some flakes for an hour or 2. All we get are hurricanes, but i guess it's the tradeoff for being in Florida.

It's gonna be beautiful in San Francisco during the Linkshare summit. 60/41

    Why don't they ever listen!!!!????!!!!!!

There's a lot of flooding in southern Indiana where I am. Scary, but not as bad as ice. People wonder why they hydroplane when going 90 mph through 3 inches of water.

    Be careful out there.

I think we need three days in a row of 70 degrees plus for them to open. I'll take pics though and post them here for ya'll if they do open.

    Freaky stuff, huh?

I might not be around for the rest of the day. Our power keeps sagging and coming back. I have a feeling that a power outage is inevitable.

Out in the woods the ice coating on the trees is starting to melt. Every once in a while a tree limb becomes freed up from the ice load, turns into a trebuchet and launches its load of ice. Pretty to look at, but probably dangerous to be near when it happens.

We didn't get nailed with the ice, but we are getting snow.

Here in lower MI we got ice. I just woke up to see that everything's covered in about 1/2 in. of ice. Last "night" (about 4AM) I could hear some small branches breaking off.

On the good side, icy trees are beautiful when the sun shines!
But, the sky is dreary today, so even though it's still pretty, it's not the "wonderland" look I was hoping for last night...

(Of course, the best-looking winter looks like summer Where did that great warmth go all of a sudden?!)

no ice storms here.. but we did have -20 temps last night at our house. I remember those temps from growing up in central NY but it's not often we get those below zero temps here in Utah..

"The ice storm arrived in upstate New York."

I had one year of that Upstate NY weather when I went to high school in Carthage for 1 year. Used to watch the Weather Channel each morning to see if we had to go to school. Got down to minus - 29 F, that's before windchill was factored in. I love snow and cold weather in the Winter and was excited for a couple of months and then it was, what the hell is this. Cold and snow everywhere and we got that lake effect snow.

The thing is that climatic belts seem to be shifting. For example, Europe is feeling global warming and somewhere in Africa people have seen snow for the first time (and it's summer now in that hemisphere!)

Some of the warmest years on record have been recently. So there is warming (overall). The debate is on what is causing it. And that debate usually ends up in flames

We have had sub freezing temps for several days now and more to come. Volunteered at one of the ski resorts over the weekend to get a free pass. Even with a face mask it was brutal but fun none the less.

My dad is in Springfield Missouri and lost power. Had to spend last night in a hotel. I am afraid it is heading east. See what happens when Addhandler moves out of Alaska??

    Cloudy, but nice in Miami....

I used to live in NJ and I really dont miss it. I lived there 13 years of my life and I hated all 13 years I plowed snow, had to go to school in Blizzards, etc...

Now my biggest delima is whether or not I should use my umbrella...Not a bad a thing to have to worry about.

    Keep warm snow bunnies...keep warm..

Emilio, let me guess that when you lived in NJ you had to walk uphill to school, both ways, in 10 feet of snow, butt naked, with a goat strapped to your back??

Sorry, couldn't help myself. I use that line every time my kids complain about having to go to school when it is cold.
