One of the chat programs I use is Yahoo. Lately I have been inundated with porn type instant messages in my yahoo instant messenger. Does anyone know how I stop that? It is embarrasing when it happens as someone is at my desk with me.
    Thanks, I appreciate everyone's input.

Yeah I never have problems with those either, I wish I could get the people that still use Yahoo to move over to something else. I have been hit with about 25 adult related IM's today.

But all his buddies are on Yahoo! I think the only think you can do is add them to your block list when they come through. Of course, they probably change their name everytime they do it like email spammers do.

Of course, you can complain to Yahoo! Surely, you're not the only one their spamming. Maybe, Yahoo! will put a stop to it as soon as they receive enough complaints.

If you only have a few friends on Yahoo!, you might just all switch to AOL Instant Messenger. The only thing I don't like about that is people can add you to their friends list and monitor when you are online without your knowledge. Whereas, anytime somebody adds you to their friends list with Yahoo! you get a message telling you that somebody has added you to their list. That way, you have the opportunity to block them. Which makes me wonder how they're doing this since wouldn't they have to add you to their Friends list before they can send you an IM?

    Very strange.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a hole in Yahoo Messenger's security that spammers are exploiting. You could give Trillian a try and see if you still get spammed...I've been using it for a while & it's great...combines Yahoo, MSN, ICQ & AOL instant messengers into one interface that you can customize w/ skins like winamp...

    Hi Heidi,

I seen your post here about yahoo IM,
I am not really sure but I think you can block anyone that it is not on your list. it's somewhere on the IM tools.

I was trying to open Yahoo IM right now, but couldn't get there! :-(

when I can get on I will check it out again and make sure. But I think that is how you can block them.
I will get back to you when I find out more about this...

    Have a great weekend all...

    hi again,

finally got online with Yahoo IM

this is what i did I log in and looked around...
In your IM window click on "login"

then click on "privacy setting " there you will see a list .
go to privacy and check on "ignore anyone who is not on my friend list"

that should block the people that is not on your list.

also check out the list for your privacy setting you can set up how you want your IM to work for you.

    I hope this helps.

Love Life to the fullest. we only get ONE chance! :-)

Jaime -- Same thing was happening to my Yahoo IM when I added an additional user name. The fix that Nova recommended worked for me. Good Luck.
