    Googlebot Reads Under Blacked Out
I have a client in a medical related field who emailed me in a panic a couple of days ago. He works with Contribute to add content to his site and put up a page with a sample patient medical file. The medical information was in a Flash Paper file on the page and the patient name and address were blacked out. Someone in the medical field Googled for a medical term and brought up a result that showed the patient name and address right there in the SERPs. When you clicked the link it went to the Flash Paper file like an image and it was blacked out and looked OK.

It must be something about the nature of Flash Paper, but shows the growing strength of their crawl.

Yeah, Google has been reading flash objects for some time now.

no, the only way is never use live data. if the sample file had a real patient name on it it was a violation of privacy and a lot of laws.

why do you think all medical office software is about as secure as they can make it?

if the sample file had a real patient name on it
The problem is that he had blacked the patient name out and Google was able to read under it. I see AM's here post about great affiliate sales and they show the record with the affiliate name and id number blacked out. How would they feel if someone could read under that. They are probably using a .jpg which probably can't be crawled the same way.

I also read something recently that someone had developed an algorithm to undo the standard blur tools in photoshop and reclaim the data, so when people blur out information in images it isn't even safe. The only way would be to not use real data, or actually black out the data in photoshop, don't blur it.

Make it black and safe as JPG. That is safe I guess.
