    Dollar Coins Are Coming Back
This week you'll start seeing them in circulation:

    http://money.aol.com/news/articles/_...00010000000001

Will be in gold - The series of coins will depict four different presidents per year, in the order they served.

Don't think it's going to fly, past attempts at dollar coins haven't worked out too well.

Hmm didn't know that. Seems like it's gonna be like the quarters were. Maybe some people might get them for that reason. If we were meant to have coin dollars we wouldn't have wallets.

Ugh, I hate the dollar coins! The ticket machines in the subways in NYC only give these for change...every time I visit I end up with 2 pounds of metal in my pockets. Give me a single any day!

    Not again.

You know how much $ we lost with those other dollar coins. Guess these will be going in collector box as I get them.

The only way they will make it is if the government just stops printing one dollar bills. It would force people to use them. I hope they don't do that, but it is the only way to make it work.

Making it a different size and color of the quarter will probably help this time. The SusanB looked too much like a quarter.

The color didn't make a difference with the Sacagawea dollars. The new ones are the same size and color as them, so I don't see that it'll make a difference. Perhaps the novelty of it might, but I suspect that it won't.

A larger size didn't help, either. The Eisenhower dollars were criticized for being too big and heavy.

I don't think coins will ever replace the dollar bill. We'll probably go cashless before that ever has a chance of happening (and I don't think either will happen soon).

I don't understand the reasoning behind the dollar coins, aren't bills cheaper to produce? And think of all the vending machines that would have to be re-engineered to accept dollar coins if they decided to stop printing dollar bills.

We've had $1 and $2 coins in Canada for years now. It's a real pita, but has been accepted by most, over time. Not much choice anyway, since paper one's and two's are no longer printed.... and yes, they are more expensive to make, but they last much longer.

Even Cuba has now adopted the 1 Peso coin though they still have the 1 peso bills in circulation at same time. Not sure why.... I agree though - bills are much lighter and easier to carry but the banks don't make their money to please us as they have a monopoly on this issue, they make them for longevity and as Steele just posted, the coins last plenty longer... what can ya do?

If they force the dollar coins on us, they should get rid of the penny in return. (round everything off for retail purchases).

Personally I think the only people that give a darn about them are the collectors (which there are a couple in my family), so it makes it that much easier for Birthday and Christmas presents. Otherwise I could care less.

    Just my humble err....two cents!

They've done that in retail locations for the armed services forever (since I was a little kid) I remember in Germany they would always round everything off to the nickel. And for some reason, most people still want the penny, remember reading a current poll on it, might be in the link above.
