Question IE Privary Report on my and other affiliate sites
Hi, this question might of been answered before however I was not able to find it. I have noticed that when I am on my site and other sites that have affiliate links (and images) I have a privacy report saying that cookies were blocked and it list the affiliate images that are one the page.

My question is: Are affiliate cookies being put on my visitors computers even if they visit my site and they do not click on one of my affiliate links?? If so are they track able affiliate cookies??

All you have to do is to open your cookies folder on your computer - click on one of your affiliate links - and see if it sets a cookie in your cookies folder.

    Hi BurgerBoy,
In my case I have the cookie blocked. But I thought that cookies were not put on a visitors computer until they visited the site via my affiliate link.

A cookie is not put on your customers computers when they visit your site - until they click on one of your affiliate links to go to the merchant's site.

    No click - no cookie.

Is that what you want to know?

    Hello KSE,

The privacy report error that you are seeing is most likely coming from the affiliate tracking pixel used generally for analytic purposes. Many 3rd party tracking systems use the aggregate data to better optimize the offers presented to the end user (customer) by tracking the visitor surfing habits.

Many of these systems drop a cookie into the browser but this cookie is not the same cookie being used to track a "clicked referral" (which is a different cookie).

The third party tracking agents often fail to provide a P3P (policy-reference) file which your browser is seeking in order to know if it is a safe cookie to accept or not .... without the P3P file it will assume no (by default depending on your security settings) and prompt an alert message on your browser.

This may not be your case, but this is a common case scenario that I do see very often.

If you have a tracking code that you put on your web pages ( Stat Counter, etc.) - That will also try to set a cookie but it is not the affiliate tracking cookie either.
