February 18th, 2007, 02:37 PM #1Does graphic hotlinking help back link count?
Couldn't find this covered in a search and would love to know if anyone knows if this could actually work in our favor:
When people hot link to the graphics on our pages, the graphic tag shows our domain URL - do SEs pick that up as a back link?
Would be awfully sweet to actually welcome band width theft. LOL

Wouldn't the image need to be surrounded by an a href to pass on link authority? I don't imagine hotlinking with only an img src would help in SE ranks since there is no link the user can click on.

Saw a story where myspace users were hotlinking to an image and sucking bandwidth. He changed the picture file to the dreaded goatse!
(definitely vulger...the wikipedia page has no images but the real image is NSFW!)
Found the original article. So funny!
