Just thankful to be safely home
Was in Lincoln (Nebraska) today watching my daughter compete in the state high school swim finals (she did great, btw). Heading home to Omaha it started to snow, big wet flakes the size of a penny. 50 mile trip home on the interstate, in the dark, took three hours at 15 mph, two dozen cars and a semi off the road. So glad to be home in compfort of our home.

Prayers for all the poor travelers tonight. It's a real mess.

Amen, we went to Plainfield, and before we got home, it was snow and ice mixture. Huge ice chucks and snowflakes. Horrible. Looks like we are in for another round!!

    Ugh!

Glad you're okay (and that your daughter did great!).

You were so wise to go slow. I always feel that at 15 mph or less, I'm fairly safe. I work 13.2 miles from our house and there were a few nights last year that it took over an hour to get home, I was going so slow!

We're expecting your weather to get here (cape cod, ma) by monday a.m.

It still is here, and when it blows of the Gulf like this it means tornados usually to the North. You can see the moon peeking through and the clouds really racing across it's light.

Glad you made it safely. We just got home, too. We were only three miles from home at a fundraiser tonight, but it was 10 miles an hour and all-wheel drive. It's supposed to be knee-high tomorrow.

Urrgh, I hate road trips like that. White knuckles all the way home. Glad you made it though. Looking at the weather report it sounds like a good weekend for you Midwesterners to stay indoors and puleeze don't forward it to us in the Northeast. We've had enough, too!

Reason #42 why I no longer live in New York!

Remember when we were in our teens Ron, and driving on those kinds of days was fun! Now they're just a PITA

Glad you are home safe Ron. I met some German tourist skiing today and they sat in the airplane for 6 hours yesterday at O'Hare. Got in at 3AM but went sking anyway. We got pounded with snow today and its still coming down. Might get 2 feet out of this storm and the one on Tuesday is even bigger.

While Spring is around the corner...the weather lady just suggested that we on Cape Cod have 5 days of snow on the way. Some "disorganized" ending with substantial from Thurs. Night to Friday am.

My pink flamingos are shivering in the snow! I did put wool caps on them last night.

Congratulations to your daughter, too and glad everybody's made it home safe.
We lucked out. Were supposed to get snow followed by sleet and freezing rain, but didn't get the freezing rain.
Have any of you guys been having problems with flying ice? It's a violation in this state but have had 3 recent happenings. Most recent one woulda made ya cry Nothing life threatening or anything but involved a pregnant Mom and her toddler. Poor little guy had a scratched up face and a very swollen and cut mouth. So sad to see the poor little guy like that I know....luckily the injuries weren't worse but still sad to see a child look like that

Beautiful place but too cold for me. I was there only once to buy a lobster boat in May 1980. I had to go to the store and buy a sweat shirt in May.

What do you mean? That it's being thrown deliberately or something? We sometimes get icicles above our front door that I'm afraid will fall on someone - so I block the stairs when the weather's too bad to get them removed.

Well, the forecast for Wed-Fri is snow showers. Lovely.

I guess I should just consider this all good preperation for my drive out trip next week to Colorado to go snowboarding with my oldest son. The last two times I have taken a trip like this in March a surprise winter storm came through, closing the highways and requiring us to find hotel rooms for the night.

Those road trips can be scary! Good thing you made it home.

I remember about 3 years ago a couple friends and I went up to Madison WI for a night. Driving home on the highway it started snowing/icing. There people spinning out on the other side of the highway, coming accross the median, and coming up on the road going the other way. We passed about 20 miles of cars on the other side of the highway, bumber to bumber, just sitting there waiting out the storm. We thought we were doing ok until my friend went just a little too fast and we started spinning. Luckily it was so late at night no one was around. Still, we did a slow 720, hitting the right side guardrail and then going accross the road into the median. Thankfully we were moving so slowly no one was hurt, just some minor bumper damage. We drove the rest of the way home at 20 miles per hour...got home at about 6 am. What a trip!

There's a reason so many people live in Southern California:

    • Today: Sun and clouds mixed. High 62F. Winds WSW at 10 to 15 mph.
    • Tonight: Partly cloudy skies during the evening giving way to a few showers after midnight. Low 47F. Winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30%.
    • Tomorrow: A few showers early with mostly cloudy conditions later in the day. High 59F. Winds WSW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 30%.
    • Tomorrow night: A few clouds. Low 43F. Winds W at 10 to 15 mph.
    • Wednesday: Few showers. Highs in the low 60s and lows in the upper 30s.
    • Thursday: Sunshine. Highs in the low 60s and lows in the low 40s.
    • Friday: Sunshine. Highs in the upper 60s and lows in the upper 40s

Judi - you're right....I shoulda explained what I was saying better. By flying ice I mean when ice is on the roof of vans, tractor trailer trucks and guess it could be from cars, too. When people are driving the ice flies off the roof of the vehicle and comes crashing through the front windshield of some poor unsuspecting driver in a car. It happens so fast and outa the blue they don't have time to react. Last year it happened once that I recall and a woman was killed. This year it's happened at least three times but has just injured the people. They're pretty big chunks I guess and come flying at a high speed and are really dangerous.
