    Got blizzard?
Ack! The weather forecast said snow showers and high winds but what we're HAVING is a whiteout.

It was overcast and breezy when I went to the kitchen to have lunch. Afterward I let the dogs out for their midday romp around the yard. Let them back in, wiped their paws and gave them a treat, looked out the window and thought for a moment I was having a problem with my eyes because my back yard DISAPPEARED!

I wanna know who's responsible for this!!!

Okay, well it's let up now. It's just snowing normally. It's hard to tell coz it was blowing so hard but I think we got between a half inch and an inch of snow in about a half hour.

    Woohoo! C'mon SPRING!!!

Rats! For a second I thought this was going to be a World of Warcraft topic.
Pretty sunny over here in the Bay area today.

rub it in . . . I'm a bit West of Rhea's snowpile but getting steady lake-effect snow for the past few hours. Good thing I don't have to drive to w*rk any more.

but returning from the morning errands into the City brought me through several bands of whiteout conditions.

You guys can work wherever you want. In So Cal, the weather is never that stoopid.

Today it's mid-70s, sunny and warm. Consider that you already have a friend here.

Think of the A.M. gettogethers we could all have ...on the beach in summer, fall, spring or winter!

Raining until mudslides happen is "smarter" weather?

Rexie, you're very sweet to want to have me as a neighbor, but I lived in San Diego for a while and didn't much like it. It's very beautiful there but it didn't suit me. Perhaps I became a biologist because I'm so sensitive to and in love with a forested temperate zone landscape and the plants and animals that inhabit those landscapes. Or maybe it's because New England is so deeply ingrained in me that I've never been happy living anywhere else. I've lived in CA, FL, IA, MA and NY and all I ever wanted to do was go home to CT. I'm emotionally stuck in that landscape of rocky ridges, trees as far as the eye can see and Long Island Sound. Nowhere else can ever feel like home.

Bet you didn't know anyone could be so sappy about a place on a map, huh?

Anyhoo, having taken a bunch of courses in geology I know that I could never feel safe living in California. I don't know how you guys do it. It's not just the earthquakes that are scary about CA, it's the mudslides and wildfires and rockslides, too. I think YOU guys are the brave ones.

It's been blizzard like for days here in Ottawa. On Friday there were points when I couldn't see 30 feet.

You obviously don't listen to enough country music!

There's a solid slice of the genre devoted to singing of the greatness of various (Southern) areas, homesickness for said areas, or how they'll never leave [insert state name].

Granted I don't really get it...all the places they talk about have w*nter, even if it is in a much lesser degree. If it can freeze the garden for even one night, that means the damage will be done!

Leader, remember that song about April showers and May flowers? I think we pay a price (Winter) for the beauty that follows it. Unfortunately Winter in upstate NY lasts about two months longer than I'm used to, and that's just too damn much Winter.

If it was up to me we'd have two months of Winter (December and January), three months of Summer, two months of Autumn and five months of Spring. I LOVE Spring. Except for the biting flies. They suck.

Herb, stop running errands and stay indoors. Winter is apparently going to kick us hard in the butt before she lets us go. Tomorrow's high here is supposed to be 9 degrees. Yup, that's the HIGH.

But in that song, they're not talking about SNOWshowers!

If it was up to ME, there wouldn't be any w*nter. There are places without this horrible "price," and they are quite beautiful--all year round.*

*Except right after the hurricanes. But even then, it's not like there's a 2-month-long hurricane that happens!

They said they had more for me. I said I was out of room.

Actually, I delivered metal samples of printing type to a buyer today. Hoping it is still worth at least as much as it was years ago. I'll still have empty drawers and cabinets to sell (consign) but the electronics stuff started going this week. And I'm keeping the really old printing type that is decorations to sell later. Wish the weather was better as I was supposed to have visitors early this week for more stuff to go.
