    Question SEO Marketing
I have set aside $1000 towards building my incoming links. Anyone know the best way to utilize this money. SHould I get a Yahoo directory or are there any other directories that I should submit too? SHould I purchase a good bit of unqiue seo content? SHould I focus on press releases?

    ANyone have any ideas?

    Thank You,
    Jason Bishop

Do some leg work. Some PR are free. Actually, there are quite a few free directories. Try blogging too

The jury is still out on Yahoo directory.

also, you might look at the overall structure of your sites. if they are on shared hosting you might want to consider moving it or some to a virtual private server, but only if there is a chance someone sharing your server is blacklisted.

(others here have more experience in that category)

    IMO
    1) Write an article and distribute
    2) Add your site in free directories
    3) If your site in free hosting then move into private hosting
    4) Some with Domain Name

Submit in Y! directory is still costly for me. Even i will submit my site small paid directories.

After all this if you still have money then do some charity to me

I would do a press release for sure. I recently had a new site for the first time in years and started off with PPC and a press release. Then I had a major online magazine do a story on my site (and a few other sites) within a month and I believe it's what helped it right of the bat in Google. The link to my site is on a PR6 page. No idea if they found me thru PPC or that press release.

Another way is go thru sites like blogads or adbrite and try to find sites that match yours. I always try to find sites I think that the owner might take a look at the sites advertising and write about it themselves for free. Bloggers like to link, find sites that get a lot of bloggers or sites that a lot of authors or press people read etc.

As far as directories, I've always wondered about that myself. There are lots out there some you have to pay to get in but might help SEO wise. I've bookmarked best of the web but haven't submitted anything.

You might take a little bit of that money and look for sites to buy links from. If you could find a good site that might deliver some traffic, some SEO benefit. But one that doesn't normally advertise that they're selling links.

As Trust said Press Releases and Your Site

Also, I've seen some fast rankings come from installed WordPress blogs. I think it has a lot to do with the plugin 'Ping-o-Matic!' that syndicates your post to dozens of blog directories on the web (including the big ones like Technorati). Pingomatic comes with the latest versions of WP. Set up a blog in a folder /blog/ and try adding good, KW rich posts 3-5 times a week. In 6 months you'll be laughin' with the amount of content that's been indexed through your WP blog. Also, be specific in your headlines/titles. That's key.

Granted we've linked our WP blog up from our site's main nav, but in 4 months it's a PR 4 and all over the place (everytime I post I get my Google alert for our blog in ten minutes). Also, don't forget to set-up a bloglines.com account once your blog is live, too!

    Hope this helps,

    GBM

As above, I would look inwards before spending money on 'external' promotions & marketing.

Look at your on-page SEO and make sure your site works on an organic basis, and that it will climb the search engines. This will be the most significant factor in your sites marketing unless you have a money tree.

    Good luck.

Gary, thanks for that link. Great thread and a lot of good info from all participants! A bit of a bummer that eAgent guy didn't stick around ABW. Seemed like he was off to a good start...

I wonder if a series of press releases would be effective for a shop like mine. Just the fact that we're taking a market from the 1800 and early 1900s online seems like a nice angle to start, but the time involved in learning yet another form of marketing is a little daunting.

There must be a great market in outsourced PR specifically targeted at web-based release services, etc.

Eathan, I think your site would be perfect for it, I can see it being picked up. The press release I did via PRWeb is very easy to figure out. It was my first one and didn't have any problems. Will do some more in the future.

Thanks, Trust. I have a half a dozen new products to add before I have time to breathe again, but I think I'll give PRWeb a shot when I get a moment.

Eathan, Yep I agree with Trust. Go fot it! For us as a new network press release syndication through PRWeb has been incredibly valuable. There are a lot of other news release services as well...but IMO none have the reach of PRWeb.

BTW if you're interested I do know an individual that manages online branding strategies and content distribution for folks. He does so through press release distribution, article writing/syndication and WP blogs. Drop me an email or PM and I'll put you in touch with him..

Rhia7, I went to the site you mentioned on the other thread. Their "printable MS Word version" has gone. Would that be too much if I ask you to email me your download copy?

Gary, thanks for the offer. Right now I'm pouring most of our revenue into new products to get ready for Spring and Summer, so probably wouldn't be able to outsource, but I'd be interested in his contact info for a bit later in the season when we've finished with the 2007 additions (my contact info is in my sig if you want to email). Will just have to take a swing at it myself for the short term.

Press releases are much adviseable. They definetly build long term link value and short term traffic.

There are some link selling networks but many of them you buy the link on a monthly basis so unless you are going to keep those monthly subscriptions for a long time you wont see much value from them. Good content and blogging can help build links.
