Now that Amazon and others have closed Morpheus's merchant account what happens to the referrals?

Is the affiliate reference hard coded into its software or is it added live?

The reason I ask, is that if it is hard coded then we are no nearer to a solution until the next time Morpheus is updated. The merchant will simply keep the affiliate commission.

If the code is added live then at least my Amazon and other links will not be overwritten with the Morpheus affiliate ID.

    Does anyone know?

I am curious how many affiliates are planning on boycotting Amazon.com over their Alexa toolbar? Please let me know as I am drafting an article and would like other viewpoints.

Good question Garys. Dropped merchants will not have to pay Morpheus a commission on hijacked links from their SE -e-mail and bookmark links. I assume their new program eliminated swapping Id# on all Linkshare coded links.

Wayne I dropped Amazon like a hot Potatoe 3 years ago when they shafted me (consulting fee) and some clients on private product e-catalog placement/fulfillment deals. I do not track Amazon stats and leave thta to the other ABWers who do quite well with them.

On the Amazon boards, Alexa/Amazon have said that the Alexa toolbar is not parasitic. Can you please point me to where there is evidence. I have Alexa installed and have ordered through my links and have gotten credit.

Alexa opens up a panel to the left of your browser with book suggestions - this will not have your affiliate ID.

    PerfectG and others.

I don't think it is parasitic, but EagleFire (i think) pointed out that any sort of button that diverts traffic could be parasitic in his eys.

How can I replicate this. I use explorer with Alexa active. Go to Amazon. Click on a book. Go to buy. Now what do I have to do to get this window to open as I don't see anything?

Ahhh. The button. Yes, I see that - BUT I do not think there is any problem with the button. OK, we do not get commissions, but it is hardly parasitic. Someone is shopping at our site, clicks on a product and is taken to Amazon. They are hardly going to then click on the shop at Amazon button once there. < OK, I know a few people might through lack of understanding but these people are the ones I doubt would have Alexa in the first place (too difficult to install )

I don't see Alexa as a parasite. The button doesn't flash when you arrive at Amazon, it doesn't activate a slider or pop-up, or anything else. It just sits there.

I agree with Andy Williams - after we've delivered someone to Amazon, are they really going to go click the button and start all over again?

Unless something more sinister comes to light, I don't have a problem with Alexa at all.

    Andy
