Can custom linking be done using merchant site search results?
Sometimes it's necessary to do a search on a merchant site to locate a specific classification of products we want to link to directly. For example, it might be for all cotton sleepwear at CFB, or all maple furniture at a furniture merchant's site.

Can we put the URL we get after doing such a search in the space in the SAS custom linking tool to create our custom link?

Hey, I have done it successfully for CFB, yep. For example, I search "cotton" and put just this portion of the resulting URL through the custom link tool:

    http://search.crazyforbargains.net/?catalog=crazyforbargains&query=cotton

However, my guess is that this will vary for many merchants, so it's always best to just test a couple?

With FunToCollect.com it takes shortening the session part off a url like this:

    http://search.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/nsearch?query=mickey+mouse&catalog=ftcollect&.autodone=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.funtocollect.com%2Fnsearch.html&x=16&y=13

...as we've discussed on the IM today.

With RussianLegacy.com you would want to put the following path throught he custom linking tool:

    http://russianlegacy.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=fur+hat

[the key-phrase (the words after the =) may obviously differ]

If the search terms are passed to the URL, I say go for it. For instance, a search for "Senko" on LandBigFish.com (another SAS merchant) returns this:
    http://landbigfish.com/tacklestore/search.cfm
While this works great on their site, it is no good for making a link.
