Hi everyone,

What are your thoughts on links to merchants opening in a new window?

Currently I don't do it but I think I'll give it a go and see what it does for page views (2 per session currently).

Just thought I'd get some feedback first

    Cheers

All links off my site open in a new window. Keeps my site up, but in the background just waiting for them to come back.

Once a year, go someplace you've never been before.

Remember your goal here: Your goal is not to increase page views, your goal is to have visitors click through to the merchant, with positive expectations and open to buy if they like what they find. My ideal affiliate site would have one page view per user session.

That said, do some testing and see what happens. If opening links in new windows improves your sales, keep doing it, and if not, stop.

Caution: links that open in new windows mess up the back button and newer users are often confused by that.

    Yes I see your point.

My concern is that if the punter decides not to buy from the merchant then they won't find my site again... I'll give it a go and see what happens

Itry to have mine open in new windows, only because a lot of links, such as found at shareasale ends up having to hit back many times to try to get back to my site. I don't want a visitor so p+ssed off they can't get back and just close my window and site down. Let them press the x to close the vendors site only.
