    Still Scrambling urls?
    Hi,

There was a discussion about Wordpress scrambling/messing up affiliate urls (particularly but not limited to Linkshare affiliate urls).
    Is this still the case?

    Thanks

Are there "plug-ins" to fix the problem now? (In terms of the general Word Press)

My host/hosting package offers 5 blogs based on WordPress. I tried to set one up once but encountered difficulties with my host in terms of the blog set-up (although I generally like my host in terms of the "all around" package). It seems as if 1&1 limits the type of WordPress blog I could have (I haven't tried to create one from "scratch" as of yet I am not the "super pro" in dealing with php or MySql).

There was a thread with complaints about affiliate links not performing well on WordPress blogs (at least on the WP server) and when I read about those difficulties I lost interest in using the WP blogging system especially since I encountered problems with my host in terms of the "easy to create WP blog" that they offer.
I've used Google's Blogger on my own host since 2001 without interference in terms of affiliate links from any merchant/network.
I would still like to know what's the deal with WP since I might transfer to WP (via my host's offer) but not if WP meddles with affiliate links.

I like Blogger published on my own server/host but I am curious about WordPress since some people seem to love it.
On the other hand, I've heard about various problems with WP so I tend to stick with what I know -- I like "what if" & "suppose I switched" conversations anyway.

I have WP on my own server. You might grab a copy and create a test directory on your server and install it there. It would tell you a lot about your questions and it's pretty well documented. I never saw any of the problems that you mentioned with the URL's.

    Here's the original discussion:

    http://forum.abestweb.com/showthread.php?t=81227

Basically, for LS anyway, wordpress was changing the & sign to & amp; code. Try posting a link and checking your source to see if there is any changes...

As for plugins, I don't know of anything specifically but the best source for plugins is www.wp-plugins.net

Thanks for finding the thread, Jason.

I find Wordpress to be changing the "& sign to & amp;" codes a concern and a reason to stick with Blogger.

I was wondering if anything had changed in terms of the above.

Yep, just tested on the latest version of WP and things are the same.

One option is to use TinyURL to encrypt your links... http://tinyurl.com/

Thanks for actually testing links, Jason.

I've used TinyUrl in the past to shorten forum/usenet links.
TinyUrl works for regular links but I've encountered problems using TinyUrl for a picture of a product link -- so the use would be text only?

Thanks for confirming ... that's the thing that makes me want to stay with Blogger at the moment, but I'd like to try the WordPress blog that my host offers with their "easy set-up" (haha -- read above) -- I'll figure out something sooner or later.

In the long run, WP is way better than blogger, way more customizable. And the installatiion honestly is really easy to do yourself. If you need help let me know, I've helped a bunch of friends in the past...

Hey, I'd be happy to do it. They call it the 5-minute install and they are accurate about that...

I've made plenty of LS sales via wordpress and don't see any problems with altered '&'. (just tested again, using 2.1)
