    Hello!

I do hope I am posting in the correct forum.

I was wondering if your members could find the time to give me some feedback on what is rather a pressing issue for me, I'm afraid.

I found out recently, and quite by chance, that a merchant with whom I am affiliated has been sharing my personal infomation with a third party.

Of course I terminated my affiliation with this company forthwith as I believe this is an appalling breach of protocol.

This led me to wonder if I am being slightly unreasonable in expecting commercial confidentiality in this matter and I would very much appreciate it if you could give me some feedback.

    Poll Question:

Do you think it is quite acceptable that a merchant should give information about their affiliates to a third party without their prior consent?

Have a look to see if
a: you are covered by their privacy policy, and

No, it's wrong. Was it a merchant on this board?

No it's wrong, but it happens a lot more than you think in this business.

Check the privacy policy and see if it was breached. Just a reminder for those of you who have unlimited e-mail aliases, this is another reason to use them. It helps in tracking down (in most cases) who is selling what.

What did the merchant say when you confronted them?

Due to the serious nature of the particular beach of confidentiality, I am not prepared to discuss any specific correspondence in public.
