April 2nd, 2007, 10:33 AM #1Tsunami Hits Solomon Islands
Prayers go out to those in the Solomon Islands where a Tsunami devastated entire villages today. My good friend Dirk Gardner, long time ABW member, lives in the Solomon Islands and I am anxiously awaiting word that he, his wife and kids are okay.

Dirk, our thoughts are with you and everyone affected by this.
Let us know you are ok!!================================================================
Been away, now I'm back. Not as much, but I'm back & starting from scratch. Where I was, was fantastic. Where I am now, less so. Things have changed, become harder. So have I. Game ON!!!

The good news is there are many islands there so that could help reduce the shockwaves ;-), the bad news is this could have broken fiber optic lines connecting communications, just like the chinese quake last year. the quake was pretty shallow (10 km) so i'm guessing that the major damage will be due to the earthquake. The first report I saw on this said the Tsunami was only 15 cm (calculation it seems), but the eye witnesses claimed wave up to 10 feet tall. In compairison the Sumatran quake was over 10 times stronger.
Here is a link to the earthquake mapping, so you can see how close it was

No word yet, but for all I know it is the middle of the night here and Dirk was not in the path. I do know he has said internet connectivity is a real challenge some times, so any little disturbance could well cause problems.
I'll provide an update when I hear from him.
