37% Dixie. You are definitely a Yankee.
Conceived in Virginia, born in New York City, raised in Connecticut. I know I sometimes send mixed messages about my origins, but it's only because my origins are so mixed. Well that and I've moved around a lot.

33% Dixie. You are definitely a Yankee.
What surprised me was that some of my responses were explicitly stated to be "Great Lakes." And it seems that MI is especially known for calling the day before Halloween "Devil's Night!"

On the other hand, I never could stand the absolute slaughtering of the pronounciation of "route" which they say is common to the Northeast.

I'll think about that, next time I have a pop on Devil's Night, while eating a piece of cake with frosting.

50% Dixie - Barely in Yankeedom
Kinda knew it would be something like that. lol Don't have a clue why but for some strange reason I have a very southern sounding accent just for the letter a. lol As far as I know neither side of my family had anything southern at all in them. Everybody was from Pennsylvania but since whenever I started talking I've had that accent. Husband's always teasing me about it. lol So, soon as I saw they wanted to know how you'd pronounce those words....that would be deceiving. lol Never even been any farther south then Southern Jersey. lol Maybe I was southern in another life or something. lol

"77% Dixie. Your neck must be a just little rosy!"
While I am a 100% Southern man, but I am no redneck.
Apparently whoever wrote this does not know what a redneck is. People from the south are not rednecks by definition. Some rednecks live in the south but they also live in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, California and everywhere else.

Now my ex-gf who is a Southern girl used to call me a Yankee because I don't have an accent and I talk normal (she had a straight up southern accent)

I have no noticeable accent, I would actually call it an American accent because it could be every state rolled into one since I grew up with other kids whose parents were in the Army and people in the Army are from every state. And I lived in Germany (many years), Upstate NY (1 year) Kentucky (1 year) Georgia (3 years), Florida (many years)

LOL. Lived in MI all my life, so that was a bit weird.

Question for you all.... Do you pronounce envelope as ONvelope or INvelope? I say ONvelope and my husband and kids tease me to death about it.

That's a little weird. Almost every question said "common in the Western Great Lakes area", which is exactly where we are, but then almost half Dixie? I think it's because when I grab a pop, it's usually a Coke.

Hmm. 95% Dixie Why, I don't even feel surprised. After all my family settled Mississippi before it was a state. I prefer to think of myself as a Southern Gentleman and certainly not a Redneck. I guess that would just be the icing on the cake wouldnt it?

17% Dixie - I'm a Yankee Duke (or something like that).

Interesting considering I'm English through and through, at least I'll know where my spiritual home is if I ever go to the US

I'm an and I don't speak English, so I can avoid the right, or the wrong pronunciation by just showing one of my international pictorial representation cards.

When I first moved to new orleans, I had some guy tell me he hates yankees. I said, "Yeah, so do I, I am an indians fan". He walked away even more confused than I was. I really had no idea, people down south can hold a grudge.

41% dixie, I know my word choices often give away my being from ohio - but damnit, sack and soda just sound stupid. Oh and we call drive through beverage stores god's gift from heaven.

I say it like it's spelled! ENvelope!

You join my aunt in adding weirdness to the pronounciation of this word, which has no O (nor I, for that matter) in it anywhere!
