lol, found out someone on Ebay was hot linking to one of my product pictures.

So I changed the picture to say:

to buy this ---
go to www.---

hehe, that was fun.

It showed up in my log files - as a link to my site to a certain jpg. I followed the link and there it was.

Good one Tom!! (and bless you for great log stats at TH media!!)

Tom/ I hope he has lots of traffic. I get lots of copied images but very few link to my site. It irks me when they don't even give me credits or a link back.

I was having a lot of ebay hot linking, so I changed my .htaccess to disallow other domains eating my bandwidth. Works like a charm.

Don't ask about the time I tried to change my .htaccess when I was too bleary eyed and forgot a few little quote marks or something . Now I'm scared of mod_write again  .

I made a little graphic with our logo and URL on it and the words "Image stolen from ParentsWorld.com" on it then fixed the .htaccess file to point to that graphic whenever an image is loaded anywhere but my site. Works like a charm

Shut down all access to your site, didja? (Just guessing from personal experience. )

I've done the ad and the "image stolen from", but I've found the best way to get people to actually remove the images is to replace them with some seizue inducing animations (works with gifs only).

Worked particularly well with one site that was using a small graphic of mine as a tiling background.

That's funny as hell...what's the line to add to the .htaccess file? I know I had it before, but I don't even know where to look...

This post is old, but I am curious what you put in your .htaccess file to disallow loading from other pages.

Thanks

# - STOP HOT LINKERS - BEGIN

RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://yourdomain.xxx/.*$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://www.yourdomain.xxx/. *$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/.*$ [NC]
RewriteRule .*\.(gif|GIF|jpg|JPG)$ - [F,L]

# - STOP HOT LINKERS - END

If you use subdomains, use caution. If you don't have your sub-domains listed here, it will cause your own images not to load....

On the subject of htaccess.

Can I use it to redirect one domain to another? I have a better domain name than the one I am using now, but I don't want to loose all the links and favorites that are hitting the current one.

so any request sent to www.sitea.com would redirect to www.siteb.com

Thoughts.

Thanks

John

TeamBP, you could also see if your host offers domain parking (many offer it for free or a small additional cost). If this were the case, at least it would be in your servers DNS record, etc.
