Wow, does anybody have the inside scoop on the motivation behind the switch?

Wow, that's a big merchant Linkshare is losing. Wonder if it has anything to do with Google?

This has been in the works for quite a while, doubt it has anything to do with Google. I think they just got a better offer.

Does Performics have a setup like LS in that you can have different offers for affiliates to choose, like they have now. They have regular and then something for the coupon affiliates. Don't recall any Performics merchants having that setup.

Maybe Google was more inclined to make the purchase knowing Target was signing with Performics.

Nah, I don't think Performics or just one single merchant is what moved them (Google). From reading around I kept seeing this mentioned:

"LS links will stop working on 4/30"
    and from Performics interface
    "Target.com - NOT LIVE UNTIL 5/1/07"

    No overlap at all. Argh.

Target began discussing this with affiliates back in January, so the contract was already signed, and the decision was probably made last year. Has nothing to do with ebates and upromise at all.

Could you explain what you mean by this? The merchant chooses who to affiliate with. No network can force you to affiliate with anyone you don't want to.

They don't force but, they sure push. Every merchant that I had with Performics has allowed Upromise and eBates into their program. Some of them are even convinced that if they do not allow these parasites into their programs, their competitors that have allowed the parasites in will get the major share of shoppers business. This from merchant's affiliate managers that I have queried on the issue. All these merchants are being replaced as non-parasitic replacements are acquired.

Just stirring the pot here. Target is already partnered with Upromise and ebates on LS.

    Received from Performics:

    New Advertiser Alert - Target
    ...

WHEN CAN I START EARNING COMMISSIONS?
Sales are not commissionable until the launch, 12:01am EST on May 1, 2007. You will be able to start building links as soon as you are approved, but the commission rate in ConnectCommerce will be 0% until the program is live on May 1, 2007...

I heard about the likely switch back in early Feb, so it has nothing to do with the Google buy of DCLK. I heard it had to do with LinkShare's service (constant account manager switches, recent firings, etc.).

I for one am VERY happy about the switch. Working with Performics is so much better for me than LinkShare. I get responses, I get helpful info, I get a lot of support.

I don't know what it's like to be a merchant in either network, but I hope they take our experience into account on the other end.

I like performics, except for the parasites.
Some days, I start thinking that maybe I should have a parasite site too.

Performics dropped the email today that they were launching Target. I am on a beta with Performics and completely manage a program for Gatelys.com. I had Ebates and UPromise apply but happily declined them.

There is the original management of sites through Performics where the company provided complete program management for the merchant. Now they are testing an agency model where an OPM like me can use their technology to run a program. There are pros and cons to the interface which reminds me of LinkShare. The first pro is that transactions are reported in lightning speed. The second is that I get amazing support that I have never gotten with a Top 3 network.

I have talked with affiliates who have made the move from CJ to PFX when a program moved like FootSmart and boasted of double conversion. Affiliates need to decide who they market and it doesn't matter if the merchant is on CJ, LS or PFX. If that merchant works with a known parasite then you need not apply!!

Theres way to many parasites in this business, why can't merchants and networks clean up their acts and stamp out this black spot in this industry? Avantlink & ShareASale appear to be able to so why can't others?

Was Target clean of parasites when it was on LS? Is that changing now?!?
    A move for the worse?

How can the affiliate be sure that Performics hasn't influenced a merchant towards Ebates or UPromise or whatever?

I understand there is a list for UPromise (many LS merchants are listed) but it seems as if this thread suggests that Target was "clean" prior to this move. Is this the implication?

As far as parasites, Target has always had them as most big brands do. So if they have them here, it's not going to be a suprise to anybody working with them now. And they've converted great for me at Linkshare. Just checked and for this year: 9.86%.
