Interesting. Another Google project bites the dust. I'm surprised it took this long, honestly.

Sounds like a smart move that should result in a much stronger and clearer positioning among shopping search sites out there (pushing their Google Checkout along the way too).

    > Google Product Search also will boost awareness of Google Checkout online payment service by allowing searchers to set the results to display only items from merchants that offer a Google Checkout option.

That's why the change, it all ties in to the GC of course. Merchants need to be using GC, or you might not show up on the GPS.

Think that's what they want and where they're headed right?

It's a smart move. Google enjoys, for the most part, a great image among internet users. Tying Froogle to an established brand name (Google Product Search) is a long time overdue. I think they should have done this about the same time they were rolling out email and Google Maps. Though its connection with GC is pretty, um, impressive.

While you can't hate on the marketing strategy, it sounds more and more like the tactics MS used in bundling its applications (IE, MS Word, etc) with the OS to crush the competition (anyone remember Netscape before it became open source?).

I wonder why I no longer see the "Products" link leading to google.com/products on the main Google page any longer... It is there when I go to the UK version - Google.co.uk
