I have a mall page that Google took some interest in this go round. Today I noticed that the page is taking forever to load (at times). Not had this problem before. I think someones banner is making the page hang. Is there anyway to find out whos with out a whole lot of work? Thanks.

Try running the page through here:

http://www.hitbox.com/cgi-bin/page.cgi?tools/doc

Check the load time result. It shows each image size. If that's not it, you mean that the banner is loading from someone else's server, slowly.

Not sure how to check the speed time of every server you're pulling from, except to try every link coming in.

AffiliateMakeover,

Thanks for that link. Checking my sites now and see I'm doing good, but each site has a little problem here and there that I had not noticed. Good of you to share this with us.

do a traceroute

1. open command prompt (for the old ppl known as DOS )
2. type "tracert domain-or-ip.tld"

Check for hops with high "load" time (above 100). You should also do a seperate traceroute for the server the banner is residing on.

added: the bottleneck might just as well be your isp as the server where your pages are stored, or somewhere in between. The traceroute hops should give you an idea of where the problem is at. You could also test different routes by using public proxies.

Thanks for the input all. It looks like it was the javascript I had on there for a pop under. Removed it and now the page loads fine. Thanks again.
