Cool. Not sure if it is really useful or just fun, but I'm checking it out.

My actual headlines have scored very poorly, I'm afraid, although I did get a nice 62.5 score with "Eat this meat before it starts to smell!" That headline apparently has intellectual appeal. "Win free zombie blood" got 75 and is also intellectual in nature.

There's a reason army's wear uniforms even though it makes them easier to spot. Sometimes that's what you want. Uniforms suggest organization, power, and numbers. These, in turn, inspire fear. And, as any good operative knows, there is no more effective weapon than fear.

    Thanks for your suggestion.
It's fun to play with headlines at different angles -- a good idea for blog headlines

    "zombie blood" got 100%

Jumbling words around doesn't seem to affect the score either, so the usefulness is questionable. We may be better off with a published list of emotional words instead of the tool.

Try these 1,200 power words for a start.

I don't have time at the moment, but it would be interesting to create combinations from the power words list and to see how they rank with the suggested headline analysis tool.

Interesting. Looks like a good seed list.

I tried a few phrases on the tool and had results from 0-60. Well I suppose there are good starting points here and there, and ultimately the appeal phrase and customer must ultimately gel - regardless of a scoring tool or a power phrase list.

Buy the book "Tested Advertising Methods" by John Caples. It's the best advertising book I've ever read and it has 4 chapters dedicated to headlines.

I love that book, John Caples is a legend. "They laughed when I sat down at the piano...". Another fantastic resource to fire the creative juices is "What's the Big Idea," by George Lois.

Anyway, this tool is a lot of fun. I think that its main value lies in the choice of words, as opposed to the message. I think the message must be crafted in a thought out way, and then this tool can help you choose the more powerful words.

Another benefit of it is that it lends itself to brainstorming. Spending just a few minutes throwing every possible headline at it allows the creative impulse to flow. One or more of those random ideas may be a winner.

    Thanks for posting this tool.

Oh, that is fun! Here's my headline:

Cheap pills, airline tickets and baby gift baskets! Buy NOW and SAVE!
Got a 16.7% but the kicker is what they say is the predominant emotional classification:

    Intellectual
Your headline carries words that predominantly appeal to most people's intellectual sphere. Intellectual impact words are especially effective when your goal is to arouse curiosity, and when offering products and services that require reasoning or careful evaluation....
    Oh yes, very intellectual.

This is a very useful resource so thanks for sharing it.

A really provoking headline is just the thing to get the consumer to read the first paragraph. Providing what is there goes straight to the heart of what you are trying to convey and I reckon that you'll get them hooked.

Now if there is a similar resource that can read paragraphs for emotional and intellectual analysis then content sites just got a whole lot easier.

Hi all I'm new here so mabe I do not know for sure what I'm doing or saying but I have been in sales for most of my life-cashiering or such and I have used good sell words in my first line to approach customers but this link you had me check out says mine is intellectual and empathetic and that to me seems highly wrong considering the words free and specials are sales words used in all sales catagorys. What do you all think?
