Thanks for the heads up, simcat. An important thing to note here is that this exploit takes advantage of a security problem that was patched almost a year ago. So needless to say, the first thing people should do is make sure the security patches on their computers are up to date.

As for AdWords, an easy way to keep an eye on suspicious activity within the account is to check the Change History tool once in a while.

    I read those too...

How exactly are we to screen the links if we are not allowed to click them ourselves?

That's one of the main issues I am always having a second thought about.

Not just about clicking on our own adsense links to test the final destination, because I know that the way it's set up, it will cost someone else (even some of us) some money, but even those other merchants that don't like their affiliates to buy from their own affiliate link. (Btw, I always try to avoid joining those.)

Buying from your own affiliate links strikes me as different. At least the merchant is making a sale. If I clicked on my own google link to make sure it wasn't download adware/spyware stuff I certainly wouldn't be taking the action that the merchant wanted...

    Exactly my point!

There are some merchants that not only would not pay a commission if you buy from your own link, but they might even send you a threat that they may drop you if you do it again.

And I agree on the google link issue, but I think that in any honest and transparent network, they should have a way to test your own links without any worry of looking like a crook if you're not on that path.
