Google showing their own product search in 'natural search' results?
I apologize if this is old news, but I am seeing g product search (is this the old froogle?) results in search of other co's products.
Example search 'newegg cpu fan' result no. 5 / 400,000
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&c...an&btnG=Search

don't remember seeing that on the first page before..
When I checked (yahoo) it showed no links pointing to that page.

Yep, Froogle/Google Products. First spotted in 2003:

lol, I was just reading that old thread with Big Chuck

[Big Chuck uses his fist to 'knock' on Trusts noggin (head), while saying the words from the movie, Back To The Future - "McFly? Hello Mcfly! Are you there? Mcfly?!"]

[Trust takes Chucks own fists and knocks him on his own head for not reading the link i posted.]

They're not showing that result for me (#5 is newegg itself). So there must be some kind of randomization or other factor involved. Usually when I see Froogle listings, they're right at the top under the ads, before the regular free SERPs start.

What I think of the Froogle results depends on whether I have something that can appear in those listings for the particular term. If I don't, then G's just cluttering up their page by putting those other sites on it

Nothing to worry about, like I posted, it's been going on for almost 4 years. I remember at the time a lot of people freaking out about it. Downfall of Affiliate Marketing type of freaking out.

I'm not freaked out or overly worried, but it seems somewhat fishy (and a bit manipulative) to have your own results appearing so highly ranked. I guess they do know the algo's better than everybody else, but honestly, how many people are really linking to Google Products?

It just makes me a bit more wary of Google in general. They've already got their hands in everything else, but showing up in the top five of results that are supposed to be pure... Eh, just makes me a bit more skeptical.

It's not "their" results. Those are merchants who have submitted their feeds and I think some that didn't and also some affiliates got their link in there. But it's not Googles.
