EML help -- Nimba Worm????
I received an e-mail with an attachment from a beloved aunt.

I usually discard e-mails with attachments but since it was from a beloved aunt, I opened it

There was no personal message from my aunt and thus I think it might be a virus.

The attached was an .EML file

I looked up some info here:
http://filext.com/file-extension/EML

I run Zone Alarm on a Windows XP computer.

I went to Microsoft for a scan here:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/s...rtedclient.htm

but I got lip service:
We're sorry. This version of the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner doesn't work with your Web browser or operating system.
I hope I don't have the Nimbda worm!

Is there anything else I should do to protect my computer?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Rhia,

First thing to do -- DON'T PANIC. You may well not even have anything if Zone Alarm didn't alert you. (I haven't used Zone Alarm for awhile, so I'm not really up on what and how it does its stuff.)

Then go here: BitDefender, if you want to try an online scan with a software I've had good luck using. About 2/3 down the page on the left-hand side is a button marked "Scan Now," which will let you do a fairly quick online scan. I know BitDefender's online scan has helped me a time or two in the past. Perhaps others will suggest something better, but it's one you may want to try.

IMPORTANT: If you're using any browser but IE, their online scan won't work. I use Firefox a lot and have to generally try again with IE when I go there.

But remember, whatever you do, DON'T PANIC, I TELL YA, DON'T PANIC, REALLY DON'T PANIC!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the tips, Gary

Probably the reason my Microsoft scan didn't work is that I use Firefox religiously -- Microsoft probably prefers IE

Thanks, Herb. Now I'm so nervous I'm not sure what I opened. I think I opened the letter. It said: Try this, this is fun and then there was a letter about using mathematic equations for fun -- I knew this had to be a virus but nothing odd has happened.

I did end up deleting my trash bin.

Thanks for the responses, I appreciate the feedback
