linkshare begins to charge its datafeeds!?

I am a new affiliate. Today, I requested LS for their free datafeeds. Below is the reply...
Attached please find the invoice for your Merchandiser FTP account. Once
we receive your payment, we will send along your FTP account
information. We accept payment by American Express or by check. Please
be sure to include a copy of the invoice or the SID noted on the invoice
on all payments. Failure to include the invoice or SID may result in a
delay of your account setup.
We will initially enable all approved feeds upon the creation of your
account. You can request new merchants via email. A list of
Merchandiser merchant programs is maintained in the Affiliate Resource
Center: http://www.linkshare.com/rc/m_merchants.shtml. Remember, you
will need to be approved for a merchant's program before you can receive

They've always charged for affiliates who don't generate a minimum volume of sales.

It was never free, as with CJ too.
As Mcoley pointed out some additional facts, there are ways around that. I know some merchants will pay for you to have it while some will have it for free.
Look around and email the Aff manager that oversees the program asking about free data feed.
