Merchant 7 day avg Climbs With No Sales?
The merchant is showing Last Commissionable Transaction through Affiliate: 05/28/2007 and yet the average commish on the 7 day is steady climbing. What am I missing here? I used to do good with him but not lately, and am digging for clues. They are exclusive SAS.

I would think that perhaps one of the days (day 5 or 6 or 7) had high clicks and no sales (or worse stats than the recent days) which would cause the 7 day EPC to increase due to a change in the click and sales data. If you follow me

Could be that one of the days that just dropped off the report had 500 clicks and no sales, replaced by a recent day of 20 clicks and no sales, which would cause the EPC to increase even with no sales.

    Cheers

7 day EPC to increase due to a change in the click and sales data
Yes but my question is on the average daily commission. How can the chart show climbing for the last 6 days without a sale?

    Same again really

If one of the days that dropped off the 7 day report had a sale with a lower commission than all other days that remain in the 7 day report then the average commission will increase (without any new sales)

    For example

Dropped Day : XYZ Clicks 1 Sale Commission $10
    7 Days Left : XYZ Clicks 5 Sale Commission $14 // $12 // $13 // $20 // $23

As long as the dropped day is a lower commission than the average of the ones left then the average daily commission will increase on the 7 day report

    Cheers

Let me take a shot to see if I understand:
    Code:
Date Clicks Commission 7 day EPC
    5-21-07 150 0.00 0.00

    5-24-07 100 0.00 0.00
    5-23-07 150 0.00 0.00
    5-24-07 200 0.00 0.00
    5-25-07 100 0.00 0.00
    5-26-07 150 0.00 0.00
    5-27-07 200 0.00 0.00
    5-28-07 250 1,000.00 0.60
    5-29-07 0 0.00 0.64

This is true, but the fact that there has been no Commissionable sale since 5-28 would give us this to average:
Day 1 (5-28) Sale of some amount
    Day 2 (5-29) 0 sales
    Day 3 (5-30) 0 sales
    Day 4 (5-31) 0 sales
    Day 5 (6-1) 0 sales
    Day 6 (6-2) 0 sales
    Day 7 (6-3) 0 sales

I know I'm going to be embarrassed when I see the light, but how will this data set produce a chart showing increasing average sales?

They could have paid out end of month bonuses. I don't believe they show as a sale but it will raise the EPC.

Each day has an average sale (or average commission) based on the last 7 days. You have to look at data prior to Day 1.

Assume no sales prior to 5/24 & each day only 1 sale made
5-24-07 $10 commission Average commission last 7 days is $10
5-23-07 $20 commission Average commission last 7 days is $15
5-24-07 $20 commission Average commission last 7 days is $16
5-25-07 $30 commission Average commission last 7 days is $20
5-26-07 $30 commission Average commission last 7 days is $22
5-27-07 $40 commission Average commission last 7 days is $25
5-28-07 $40 commission Average commission last 7 days is $27
5-29-07 $0 commission Average commission last 7 days is $30
5-30-07 $0 commission Average commission last 7 days is $32
5-31-07 $0 commission Average commission last 7 days is $35
6-1-07 $0 commission Average commission last 7 days is $36.6
6-2-07 $0 commission Average commission last 7 days is $40
6-3-07 $0 commission Average commission last 7 days is $40

After 7 days of no sales the average sale is 0, til then if there is 1 sale in the seven day period that is the average.

5-28-07 $40 commission Average commission last 7 days is $27
To my way of thinking you can't have a 7 Day Avg
until the 7th day and so on 5-28 you would have $1907= $27
5-29-07 $0 commission Average commission last 7 days is $30
    Now it would be ($190 - $10)7 = $25.71
5-30-07 $0 commission Average commission last 7 days is $32
    Now it would be ($190 - $30)7 = $22.85 and so on.

I have had to shut down due to lightning so many times today I'm not thinking to straight. Good excuse anyway.

I think the definition is average sale during the last seven days and not average sales per day for last 7 days. Amount sales last 7 days/# sales over the last 7 days and not Amount sales/7. I could be wrong but that's how I understand it.

It finally stopped raining here. We had some strong thunderstorms this morning as well.

You must be right, and have been a teacher to be patient like that.

Then I guess the moral is that the graph is worthless if we don't know the number of sales involved. Showing a big up trend in average sales is pointless if there has been only one sale in the 7 days.

Guys, think about this. No commisionable sale made in 7 days = zero commissions paid.

Zero commissions divided by 7 days equals a Zero average 7 day commission.

Bumpaw is correct. There is something not quite right with these numbers unless there is a variable that we do not know about or the SaS system is just calculating this incorrectly. In either case these numbers should be taken with a grain of salt.

Another possibility is that the merchant supplies the numbers as opposed to an automatic calculation and the merchant hasn't performed a recent update to their figures.

It is also possible that SaS calculates the last 7 day period that a commission WAS paid in. However this still does not account for an increase in the average daily commission.

Based on the info supplied by Bumpaw, the average daily commission for the current 7 day period should be ZERO.
