    Exclamation Acmehardware out of business?
Has Acmehardware.com gone out of business? If you go to their website it thanks their customers and it indicates that they will let everyone know when they come back to business. I sent an e-mail and it was returned as undeliverable!

Whoops. Just went there myself through one of my banners and, yes, they appear to be out of business from this message that was the only thing showing in my browser:

    This website is temporarily unavailable.

We thank you all acmehardware.com customers.

We will inform you when we get back to bussiness.

(Hey, I know, they're hardware guys -- but couldn't they try a little harder on the spelling than "bussiness"? )

Nothing showing about temporarily being offline my SAS account, though. Hope it's just something temporary.

If they were just remodeling/remaking their website, you'd think they wouldn't have a message that sounds so final, eh?

I wonder . . . in GoldenCAN links the inventory still shows and the shopping cart is apparently working.

Maybe they're reworking the homepage and goofed.

    Or have they been hacked?

With all the money he spent on hardware, he could have bought himself a few chicken dinners. Maybe when he went off the air and retired the lost sales were just enough to make Acme go broke.

Of course this only happens AFTER spending 1/2 a day massaging the feed.

They've had those issues many times before. Probably will be back again but reminds me I need to pull them.

OK, so this is a question that probably displays my ignorance of affiliate marketing and/or etiquette:

Anyone care to recommend a good, comprehensive hardware merchant, preferably with SAS since I love their network and work most often in my lame fashion with their datafeeds?

If it's not appropriate to ask that, or if no one wants to mention a merchant by name, forgive me in advance for asking. I certainly wouldn't want anyone to give away proprietary information (hehe -- I did "proprietary" without using my spellchecker; brighter than I thought I was) or name a merchant on the SAS forum from another network.

Heck, you could even PM me if you wish.

ACE and Home Depot are two big names in the hardware field that have affiliate programs (not at SAS, unfortunately).

    Thanks, Michael,

I'll check around. Actually, Ace Hardware is on SAS, and they even claim to have a datafeed there. But I can't find links to any datafeed from their available creatives. I sent them a message through the merchant contact form.

I think you're thinking of Acme, not Ace. They're the one that shut down.

Well, AcmeHardware sales haven't been great, that's for sure, but I have made a few this year.

I have one sale processing for May 2007, but the rest (a humble 7 sales since the first of this year) have all locked. The most I had in any one month was 5 sales in Dec. 2006. They all went through successfully.

This is totally weird. I tried calling their customer service # in San Francisco. Got a Qwest automated voicemail box reply and hung up. May try again after 9 am. Both e-mails I sent bounced back undeliverable (mailbox full ...)

Hmm. I'm really not sure WHAT I joined now.

There's an Ace Hardware Superstore merchant at SAS which I joined this morning.

Is that something different than Ace Hardware?

    AceHardware.com is with Linkshare.
    AceHardwareSuperstore.com is with SAS.

Company logo is the same. Sites look totally different. I only sell a few choice items through Acme, and Ace does not have them at all. Bummer ...

That AceHardwareSuperStore.com looks like it might be an individual Ace Hardware store. I wonder if their corporate offices realize that they're doing nationwide business utilizing the Ace Hardware name, in competition with the corporate web site.

good to know, I had a site dedicated to Acme Hardware products. Will work on it and get it updated to something else, maybe Ace products.

Maybe they closed because they have a Bigger Fish to Fry , you never know

I just read through this thread, and then checked out the AceHardwareSuperstore.com site, and it's loaded with AdSense on every page I viewed.

    AGGHHHHH!!! You're right. Adsense everywhere.

Note to self: LOOK first next time, THEN leap. The good news is, although I signed up with AceHarwareSuperstore.com, I haven't put up any links. Don't imagine I will!

Now it's my turn to show some ignorance...

Went to the site, it looks like a regular shopping cart, zencart or maybe oscommerce? There is an area that has adsense that is built into the template, so it shows on every page.

If you see a merchant that has any adsense on the site, do you immediately discount them as a partner? Or is it, in this case, because it is on every page?

I've signed up with some merchants that have adsense on pages that are not transactional in nature. But rather information about the company or products/services they provide.

But if you don't like adsense on a merchant, would you also not consider a merchant that has a contact phone number (toll free or otherwise) on the page? It seems like both would be a negative toward you earning a commission while benefiting the merchant.
