    E-Mail from Wal-Mart
    Hi Brad,

I hope you are doing well. I wanted to check in with you and discuss some tough news that we received regarding budget. We need to slow down for the remainder of June and I need to ask that you pause your campaigns and hold off on promoting Walmart.com for the time being. I will keep you posted with updates as I learn more. Please feel free to contact me with questions.

    Best,
    Mike

I received the same exact email. Wonder what's going on with them.

Wow, I didn't receive anything like this but it has been my worst month with Walmart in quite some time. This is scary.

Was this email sent through the Linkshare system? If not, could you copy the full email header here?

Have you ever been in contact with this person before?

Are you running PPC for Walmart or do you just have their links on your site?

I have never ever heard of such a thing.

I mean, we get paid by commission. So they don't pay $$$ unless they make $$$. That bit about low funds, seems very very bogus.

When I next go shopping at Wal-Mart, I wonder if the greeter at the front door will ask me not to buy anything, or to at least watch what I spend.

Please give us details of your conversation, CathyM. What "campaigns" are they referring to? Surely they are not telling their affiliates to remove Walmart links from the affiliate's site.

I've emailed Mike to let him know about this post. I doubt we'll get a response before Monday.

Snowman - I try to make it my rule to not post private conversations on public boards. I can only confirm that my email was similar to the one posted and I did receive an explanation from Randy.

MichaelColey - Good idea to let Mike respond.

    pause your campaigns
Isn't that PPC lingo? I've never heard of "pausing" or "campaigns" with regard to organic SEO - never once, anyplace, any time. Could it be that affiliate competition is driving their PPC costs up and straining that budget?

I've just had my best couple months ever with Walmart and I haven't gotten any emails except promotions, but I don't do PPC.

Sound like their bean counters are going to advise them to lower commission.

    What is their commission structure?

There's stuff that pays lower commission, but if I remember correctly domestics are 8% and apparel is 12%. I'd have to look to be sure, but it isn't shabby. But they only give 3 return days, which has got to keep the amount of commission they pay out down considerably.

Perhaps that's it -- affiliate bidding may have reduced Wal-Mart's own traffic and its ROI from PPC campaigns. If so, then I'd expect to see a policy change regarding PPC, not a commission change.
