Why do some SAS merchants not give approval to their program and/or ftp access in a timely manner?

Or is a non-reply automatically a "no" answer?

I am trying to set up a new site, but about 1/2 the merchants are not providing ftp access and several have not accepted me. It has been close to a week.

It would be nice to get a word back, even if it is a "no" answer. Many times, a "no" can turn into a "yes" if the affiliate can present their case. I think there should be a firm time-line where an answer is provided, even if it is as much as a week or 10 days.

    Cheesehead,

I understand the frustration, and agree that you may want to set a personal firm time-line where you would want to move on from a non-answer. I don't think we'll look into a ShareASale enforced timeline as we generally don't like to do as such. We've obviously made exceptions to that but would rather do sparingly with mission critical types of things.

If you feel they've lapsed too long you can "Quit" the merchant program which will give you the opportunity to apply again and start the process over, etc...
    Thanks,

(goes to check pending FTP requests....)

I try to approve them as they come in, but sometimes the emails get buried and I miss them for a few days.....

Send a second one if you don't get an answer the first time is my suggestion.... but you are right, you shouldn't have to!

I will give it one full week. Then I will reapply as suggested.

I have to wonder if many of the merchants even know what the FTP access is used for. I reapplied for ftp access but again no reply. Perhaps since they do not know, they are hesitant to provide the access. Also, I am wondering if some merchants know how datafeeds are used.

Perhaps giving them some information on how datafeeds are used, how records are selected via php/mysql scripts and the importance of representative field terms, and why ftp access is needed would be helpful. Knowing all this would help them to provide good clean feeds.

One standard set of information provided to all new merchants might go a long way.

You may have the answer here. I have some merchants that haven't updated their feeds in months and one that hasn't updated their feed in over a year. When I requested an updated feed their response was that their catalog hasn't changed even though several of their links point to out of stock and discontinued products.

FTP access to these feeds would be almost useless as they need so much manual cleanup.

I look at our approvals every morning, the only reason I would not accept an affiliate is because I cannot see a site. I just want to make sure that the content isn't vulgar or pornographic. As for FTP access I'm new to this side and am blessed to have a brilliant IT department to help me understand it. It also took us a little bit to get our fairly large XML feed into the SAS FTP database, but now that it is done and I am the dedicated affiliate manager things should stay running smoothly.

BTW - My name is Jared, and yes this is my first post.
