Exclamation Beta testers - Pets Warehouse
We just uploaded our 40,000+ pet supplies DB.

I'm looking for 2 or 3 affiliates that are proficient in DB integration to test it out and report suggestions etc.

We have about 2,500 categories, with upto 3 subcategories

Over 25,000 images, 15,000 extended descriptions.

Our official re launch of our new affiliate program is tentatively set for July 17 after the affiliate summit & vacations.

Wow, seems like a nice datafeed, Bob. If you have it well categorized (and 2500 categories sounds like it is), it should prove to be an awesome benefit to the right affiliates.

I have a city community site that is seen by a lot of Yuppies who own dogs, and am learning to manipulate data (the three sites in my sig are dynamic). However, I won't have a spare minute for the next three months. Summer is my busiest time for our main revenue avenue, which is travel. Plus I am taking time to attend Affilate Summit - driving down from Maryland and photographing beach resorts on the way home.

But, in the fall when you have everything going, I'll be sure to hop aboard. (Had to post something now because you efforts are certainly worth a BUMP.)

Well it looks like to me.. based on your description of your datafeed that it already needs some work...

    If you have 40,000+ products..
and those are broken down into 2,500 categories.. That means that you have about 18 products in each category.. NOT to mention that you also have upto 3 SUBCATEGORIES...

Then there are the 25,000 images...
So what that means is that 15,000+ products DO NOT have an IMAGE.. (not good)

I would say based on your own description that you need to categorize your products better.. there is no reason to have that many catgeories and subcategories.. it just creates a big mess...

Plus.. it would help if you did not have 404 pages on your site...
    look >> http://www.pets-warehouse.com/tenecor/pentagon.htm

404 links on that page >>
    http://www.pets-warehouse.com/teneco...t_back_hex.htm
    http://www.pets-warehouse.com/teneco...or/hexagon.htm
    http://www.pets-warehouse.com/teneco...or/l-shape.jpg << this link is a 404 image...

    http://www.pets-warehouse.com/teneco...r_Cylinder.htm
    http://www.pets-warehouse.com/teneco...traquarium.htm
    http://www.pets-warehouse.com/tenecor/tenecor/vista.htm

and there are probably more 404 pages elsewhere on your site...

those links are located in the navigation area of that page...

    _______________

What you need to do is reduce the amount of visitor CLICKS it takes to find something... having tons of subcategories just means that the visitor has to sift through TONS of categories and subcategories to find something...

the online shopper has a SHORT ATTENTION SPAN... if they can't find stuff quick.. they usually hit the back button until they are gone...

Try to keep everything within 3 clicks of the main page...

This means less SUBCATEGORIES.. AND more well organized CATEGORIES

Basically every SHAPE aquarium doesn't need it's own subcategory..

If you want me to take a look at your feed.. PM me a link to it..
I'll try to help where I can...

Thanks for the input but I really wasn't looking someone to go off trying to try the feed without a brief understanding of how it is setup.

That is not the way it is setup, there are 2500 categories including the subcategories.

Then there are the 25,000 images...
So what that means is that 15,000+ products DO NOT have an IMAGE.. (not good)
In this verticle that's very good, there are twice as many pic's as others have products, also a pic is not required for many items.

Plus.. it would help if you did not have 404 pages on your site...
    tenecor/pentagon.htm
Moreover they aren't in the DB.

The Tenecor line was replaced with SeaClear, those links need to be deleted.

It pretty much is 3 - 4 clicks, buy it!

However, if you're using a feed linking directly to a product...........

This means less SUBCATEGORIES.. AND more well organized CATEGORIES

Basically every SHAPE aquarium doesn't need it's own subcategory..
It's not set up like that.

If you would like to help out please PM me, I'm not about to try and discuss this in a thread.
The purpose of the thread was to have a few people contact me, discuss our goals and test out the DB.

I already have one person started and would like to find one or two more that are DB savvy.

PetsWarehouse.com, I'd be interested in working with your new datafeed. However I'm not a current affiliate, I'm signing up now (new to ShareSale also), but that may take a day or so. I'm a price change site operator, see outdoors.wslrss.com, so I'm DB savvy. I'd be happy to take a look at the data early if it is available, email me at iolaire ------ at ------ usa ----- dot ----- net. Of course I'm hoping the the datafeed is updated regularly and there are regular price changes intended to drive sales.

Yes, we update 1 to 4 times a month.

We will also offer 10-20 individual coupon items monthly .

We have been asked to offer a few non expiring coupons also.

    Hi Bob:

First off I say the more categories the better

I do agree that no images is a problem. I usually remove the items without a description. I would love to help you test your new feed.

For coupons free shipping is a given, but I also really like the $ off coupons based on how much you order.

I went over your datafeed. There are a couple of things that I noticed. Your ProductId column is all 1's. There shouldn't be any product id's with the same number. In your Custom1 column, some are showing up as ../something/something.htm. It should probably be http://www.pets-warehouse.com/something/something.htm

    Bob,

We will join your affiliate program. We have a deal site and a new pet site. I will send you a PM. Does the shareasale platform have the ability to generate member id coding for cash back?

I didn't realize your beta feed was different than the one that is listed on shareasale.

Incentive site Bob, he wants to offer cash back to shoppers (funded from his comms) and is wondering if there are tracking mechanisms in place to make it easier for him to do that. Most merchants will take a pass on that, it's often problematic on several levels. Ask your peers and see what they say - if there are exceptions to be considered, they'll tell you which ones they would consider.

    Question Question thumb nails
Some of the feed back has been if we can add thumbnail images to our DB.

    we're adding them now.

The question is what size would be best?

    80x80
    125x125
    or?

    Just my 2 cents:

I use some PHP scripts with 150x150 images. If the thumbs were that size, it would work fine for me. Otherwise, I use a table that resizes whatever to 150x150.

I always like bigger and of course better images. I would say 125 squared.

But if how most people organize it there are a lot of products on one page smaller might be better so you can get 3 or 4 wide on a page and then they scroll down. But not so far.

    But probably 125 X 125
