Can I ask what do you do on your Treo? Do you email and text a lot? I wanted an iPhone decided against it when Apple admited that they expected almost everyone to have problems using the touch screen keyboard due to the keys being so small and not seperated as much as tey would like. Rule number 1 in the at&t iphone handbook says to inform customers it isn't a smart phone.

Also bugs me that the iPhone will force me into a 2 year voice and data agreement, even if you don't want a data plan your forced into it with the iPhone.

And I left at&t for a reason, don't think I can forgive them as of yet.

I have 2 Sprint contracts for both my wireless card and phone. It takes a $200 fee to get out of it. Doesn't everyone have that kind of thing these days unless you pay as you go?

On my treo I surf (mostly ABW), respond to posts, PMs on ABW and email, I do a good amount of SMS and MMS as well. I'm pretty sure that the iphone keypad will be comparable to the treo's size wise and it's got the intuitive spell checker.

As for AT&T I'm on verizon and have had nothing but headaches in the past two years - one month my bill was $12,500 because they took off the unlimited data and it took 5 months to get it resolved, my phone keeps dropping calls recently and my treo is on it's last legs - the space bar sticks and memory keeps flashing.

I don't have a problem with a contract, the things I care about is that it's not 3G, no removable battery and that the 2nd gen would definitely be better and that I'd probably have to upgrade phone before the contact is up to have the latest one.

I don't know of any wireless provider that locks you into both data and voice one phone number or broadband card.

If you get a broadband card from sprint you can get it with out a voice plan
If you get a phone from sprint you can get it with out a data plan

If you get the iPhone you have to get it with both or they won't even sell it to you.

Data plans for phones, even smart phones are typically add-ons that you can cancel at will. On the iPhone you can't cancel your data plan as it isn't an add-on its a manditory feature.

I think it is one nifty little package H, but nah, I'm sticking with my 3 year old Nokia. Heck, I can even take pictures with it!!!!

I can understand how you techies would love what it does. A couple of my sons are all over it. But for me, the fact that I can actually hold this little Nokia thing in my hand, dial a number, and somehow (magically) the call flies through the airwaves to a cell, and the person on the receiving end can even hear me - is mind boggling!! LOL

My very first cell phone was 1984. It was hard wire installed in my car, had this huge transmitter / receiver in the trunk, and they had to drill a hole in the trunk fender for the antenna. It was $5,200 installed... Ouch.

Haiko: You answered my questions before it posted! I'm excited about this!!

Has anyone seen any promotions coming from AT&T directly? My regular phone bill and DSL is through them, but only Apple has sent me promos so far.

    Curious,

Not with Sprint. I have a Samsung I-500 (Palm compatible) and the data plan is mandatory whether you use it or not.

Interesting! Thanks for the info!! I wonder if AT&T will make it an attractive bundle?

That's wierd, My boo boo bear has the IP-830 which is bascally the newer I-500 (just runs windows Mobile) and the dataplan was an option, I personally have the MotoQ and the data plan was an option, and I have the upstage as a test phone and the dataplan on that phone I add and remove it all the time with Sprint.

From the rumores I have heard they have a voice data plan bundle starting at 70 dollars but thats for a voice plan that has no unlimited nights and weekends. But thats just a rumore no one knows for sure if they are going to make an iPhone package.

You are fortunate! I need more than one solution with my travel and workload. The more technology advances, the more complicated my life becomes. Many of us with home offices are also road warriors!

Can you freeze it? My plan allows for cancellations a month at a time.

The iPhone looks really slick and I've always been interested in devices that combine different functions into a single device (I'm running out of pockets). However, the iPhone's multimedia features would be a nice thing to have while my current Smartphone features are a must have. I'll just have to wait.

I'm sticking with my Treo for now. However, if hubby wants a new cell phone any time soon, I'll let him get it if he wants it. He's not as into gadgets as I am though, so I don't see that happening.

Speed is alleged to be called "fine edge" and should be at 70 - 100KB I think it's unlimited.
